I have had Pandora's Box for two years, and this year it really put on a show. It supposedly is very susceptible to rust, but so far, so good--and I have rust in my yard! It is so pretty that it can stay as long as it is rust-free!

Scapes were a bit taller than 19" here.

Here's my annual evaluation. Pandora's Box, is still in its old location, too many new plants going in to futz with this one. It's fine where it is. Not a tremendous amount of bloom this year but it's an early bird in my garden and we had a hot dry June after a fairly dry winter. Still, it seems to be taller than in previous years, so maybe it's responding to being fed in the Spring. The first photo is from five days ago, that might have been its last bloom

July 1, probably the first bloom

That means that Pandora's Box bloomed for two weeks this year.

Two years ago, I sold my farm and left Pandora's Box behind. It was never a favorite of mine. It was very dependable but kind of boring. Curiously, I loved Wild Horses, which is similar in its color combination to Pandora's Box but seems much more dramatic and imposing to me. Sadly, I had to leave Wild Horses behind too. Here is Wild Horses:

I paid $8 for Pandora's Box in 2008 and kept it for 6 years, but as I got more into daylilies, I was looking for other features, so I gave it to my sisters. I still have all my pictures of it to remind me of how it grew here. It was a nice plant and would be good at the front of the border since it is short.

7/2/2011. This picture shows that some scapes get 3-way branching and around 15 buds, but some pictures only show 2-way branching.

6/26/2014. It has small fans and it multiplied well. It bloomed from about mid-June to the first part of July, around 3 weeks and the blooms were cream-colored and sat just above the foliage. I prefer blooms to be well above the foliage, so may be another reason I got rid of it.

6/12/2010. The 4" blooms are pretty and would brighten up any spot in the landscape.

Pandora's Box barely bloomed this year. I caught one photo on July 2nd. It was completely overrun by Coreopsis. This Fall, I cleaned out and replanted all the struggling Daylilies in Upper Bed, Upper Half. They'll certainly be happier not being strangled to death but they might need a season to reestablish themselves. I'm not expecting to see much of PB next summer either.

This Evergreen is my most advanced daylily in my gardens right now for the last week of March in zone 5B/6A. This picture was taken on March 17. It is well protected along my house on a southern facing wall.
