Isn't it funny how there is still a stalk of the butterfly weed still blooming, while the rest is very dead from the freeze.

I noticed this same thing today when we were out front! I think the plants that are blooming for me are responding to the rain, however. I have Lion's Ear and Copper Canyon Daisies blooming. The daisies weren't blooming at all during the drought. The Lion's Ear had already bloomed and died down. I'm happy to see them both!

That really does tell the story of the radiant warmth coming off the brick.

I was thinking it was the heat from the house, but radiant heat makes more sense . This is a south wall.

Speaking of micro climates, though, I have an area on the south side of the house that gets very hot, doesn't seem to ice up the way the rest of the property will, but also has some water run off (very shallow incline & the rain tends to wash southwest over the property). I have hopes of growing a small olive grove there, but I have been told that I'm dreaming, since I live in the southern tip of Texoma (Trenton).

Does anyone have experience finding and working unique areas on their property?

I shouldn't think you would have a problem with an olive grove as long as you are selective on the type of olive trees you choose. I only have one tree but it is impervious to the cold we receive in a similar zone to yours.

I walk with my canine collection daily and can actually sense/feel microclimates when walking. There are different areas that have cool drafts of air in spring/summer and others that are noticeably warm in winter and they are consistent. Neither is wide but it is as though air currents follow the lay of the land.

Thanks for the shares. I'll research the variety carefully before planting to ensure that I have the best suited for my climate. My feeling is that, if nothing else, it's worth a try!

Strangely enough, I have a milkweed growing in a large pot that is trying to bloom. Almost of the other milkweeds look really terrible! With all the problems I've had this winter, I just started leaving the plants to their fate as far as freezes.
