Readers responded with an avalanche of photos to our call for blossoms from their gardens to publish in our December issue of What's Blooming. Thank you one and all! Before we take a look, though, let's hear from our Mystery Blossom Contest winner, Robin (Robynznest).

Here in Pittsburgh what's blooming is NUTHIN!
But I've carefully selected perennials that are evergreen for my front yard, just to make the non-gardeners do a double take as they pass by!

How clever, critter! Thumbs up I've got a kerria shrub that has bright green branches and twigs all winter, but that's about it. What evergreen perennials do you have in your front yard?

I have several sedum, sempervivum, 2 little conifers (came with the house), 2 Sweet Williams, lithodora, penstemon, pratia, 2 delosperma, ajuga, 3 veronicas, AND IT'S A SMALL YARD!!!

NEXT YEAR, after they've had time to fill in, I'll post a snowy evergreen picture!

It took me forever to dig up and haul away the lava rock and a few inches of the clay that was under it, but i FINALLY got everybody into the ground in October. I'm excited to see it this time next year!

Thanks for the info, critter. You've come up with a unique gardening idea! I'll be interested in seeing that photo next year. Have a great holiday season!

BTW - If you're one of us who came over from Dave's Garden and you still have your subscription, go to the search tool and specify zone 5 and evergreen, without anything else. I was surprised to see how many options I had!
