All About Grapefruit, Limeys, and Orange Conservatories

Most of us are aware that we need a certain amount of Vitamin C daily in order to maintain optimal good health, but winter is a time when our bodies may need additional amounts of this vital nutrient. Citrus fruits such as grapefruit, limes, lemons, and oranges are a great-tasting way to add more Vitamin C to our diets. You may even decide to grow your own.

Thanks for a great article, Tee. Thumbs up It was interesting, well-written, and I learned a lot.

I don't know if you already know this, but in case you don't, I have a Ponderosa Lemon tree in the basement under lights. It still produces lemons, if I remember to hand-pollinate the blossoms. I got the tree through a comic book ad when I was 15.

Yes, I remember reading about the comic book ad lemon tree. How great that it's still going strong and producing lemons! And I also remember the days when they offered things like that in comic books. Ah, the wonderful days of youth!! Green Grin!

Loved this article. When DH and I inherited my brother's home in Florida, we also inherited Meyer lemon, grapefruit and orange trees. What a joy it is to walk out into the yard and pick a fresh orange or grapefruit for breakfast! We also bring back bags of citrus for our neighbors in AR when we return in the spring. The broiled grapefruit is delicious! I also freeze lemon juice in small 1/2 cup portions for lemon meringue pie throughout the year.
Any day you wake up on the sunny side of the grass is a good day.

Thank you, Jean. How nice to have all that fresh citrus! I'm envious. Smiling I loved my citrus trees in CA but here the weather makes it a different story, of course. Maybe I should build a conservatory. Wish I had thought of that years ago.

I do have a Victorian conservatory, compliments of DH here in AR, however, we spend winters in FL. If we didn't have the Florida house, I am sure I would at least have a Meyer lemon here. A wonderful neighbor waters my plants in the winter that reside inside.

We're in 7a. The sunroom, as I call it, is heated, with the temp turned down so the plants don't require lots of water. We had a lot of cold weather last winter. The thing I fear most is a power outage.

Great article. Congrats from one old limey. I am not allowed to eat grapefruit as I am on blood thinners, but I do love a nice big orange. Thank You!
