The trout lilies die after they bloom? Sad I knew they took seven years to bloom but didn't realized they would die after that, maybe I blocked out that part!
Trout lilies often grow in woodlands, we have large colonies here. Not the best pic but you can see, they are one of the first signs of spring.

You bet me to it Christine. Rolling on the floor laughing
So far I haven't found anything saying they die after blooming. I think just the foliage dies back after blooming. : )

That is beautiful Christine!!! They are very scarce around here, and very rare, every year we have Trout lily walks led by local naturalists so people can see them and enjoy them. Nature is so wonderful and so much fun too. Smiling

But there's no way to see an ant in my pic, Lynn, we need your wonderful photography to get that one. Whistling whew... that must be it, they die back after they bloom, until next year; because they only bloom a short time and then you don't see signs of them anymore but the ones with just leaves, stay.

Thank you Josephine. I feel really lucky to have found them growing here. I read they were rare.

Well Lynn, if you can get then to pose you'll be a very rich gal. Just look at what happened with that 10 yr. old girl from Fl. who has the lizards that pose! I was just sent a greeting card with her posing lizards. Man, the whole family is raking it in. The back of the card says:
Talent Coordinator: Lily Capehart
Conceptualized by : Dina Capehart
Photogopraphy by: Lucien Capeheart
The whole company is called "Lizardville Inc."
