Some mighty interesting daylilies there, like GRANDMA NUT for instance! But I instantly fell for RIP SAW -- would love to get that one if I were a little richer!

I like Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Rip Saw is interesting, but it is not pod fertile. Does that bother hybridizers? or do they just use the pollen, and are OK with that?

I really really liked the video - no touch ups there, plus one can actually see the plant habit ~Jan

Jan, it depends on why they want to use a daylily. Some hybridizers, from what I've read them say, want to use only pod and pollen fertile on both sides so it will pass that trait on. But just because the parent has flaws doesn't mean it will pass that on the its kids. Fred has a bridge plant that is on the short side that he uses often; it doesn't pass the short scape to the the kids. I know this is not a Dan Hansen intro, but a very good example of pod infertile. Take Jelly Maker for example, it is almost impossible to set a pod on it but everyone uses the heck out of the pollen. That's why you take a daylily that has traits you like but may not be perfect and use it on a pod parent with plant habits you desire for the pollen parent. Doesn't always work that way, but that's the goal. There is no set in stone rules as to what percent each parent brings to the table. And you have to remember the grandparents and great grandparents have genes that will come into play as well.

I really prefer my plants to be pod fertile mainly because I like to make lots of seed and sell a lot of it. That is a big plus for me to have it be pod fertile.

Decisions, decisions Shrug!

Once he posts the collection price then I can decide how many to get. I'm hoping he will do something close to what he did for the fall, buy 10 for $500 and then add more at $50 each.

He always has great bargain basement prices but many of his past intros really drop in price quite quickly. Thumbs up
