I'm falling in love with crinums. Went to an estate sale last week and they were selling the garden - fabulous plants at bargain prices. I got 5 of these

Thumb of 2018-06-19/jerseyridgearts/9884c1

and would have dug more had it not been pouring rain - the lightning is what made me stop. I left 6ft daturas, ginger, ferns, pams, valerian with blooms the size of a watermelon...

the crinums were starting to bloom - I think its this variety:

now to decide where to put'em.

I've never heard of anyone 'selling the garden'! That must have been exciting. I'd love to get into a beautiful garden where I could choose the plants to dig up and take.

I agree !!! How fun and to see the actual plants in bloom... what a neat idea.

Catherine, is your shoulder well enough to be doing all that digging?

You should have 'called' us. We would have come and helped you dig. Whistling

shhh Kristi - we are 'faking it til we make'. I ran into the estate sale as I was leaving my physical therapist appointment....

I was desperate - it was pouring rain, thunder lightning....and me one handed with a rusty shovel. I called neighbors to see if they could come. The homeowner had filled in a giant above ground pool with hundreds of plants...I had to use an app on my phone to figure out what some things were. The estate sales people cautioned us about snakes (I wasn't the only one digging} but you couldn't stop us. I gave up when it seemed the lightning was too close.

I need a garden buddy lol. Did I mention the 5 big bulbs were $15.00 total? Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

SNAKES???? Yikes. But that was a righteous price on those bulbs.

I'm guessing those were the same bulbs as the photo of Crinum blooms you posted? Or are they a different bloomer?

I won't tell your Physical Therapist but you really do need a gardening buddy!

yes, although I lifted the photo of the blooms, the clump I took the bulbs from had blooms that very closely resembled the picture I posted. I'm betting there were more crinums in that yard but it would have taken more than a day to discover everything there. Sighing!

Hmm... I wonder what they'll do with what they didn't sell.

Have shovel, will travel. Whistling

BTW, you may need to start carrying a digging implement in your ride (just in case).

My first encounter with white crinums were from abandoned home where kids played soccer. I saw them blooming one year so I went and dug and dug and finally got some to take home (the field was few homes from my house).
I found wedelia, first encounter with them too. They have been in my yard since 2000 and have mutilplied and been shared with many friends and gardeners.
You can't get rid of them!

Here's my Ellen B. Which I received in a trade and is presently blooming.

Hilarious! @bkrell Please show us yours when they bloom.

I missed the Ellen Bs' when they bloomed and the only thing I have blooming now isn't a Crinum.

It is Hymenocallis.

My crinums are blooming. It is a blessing as they don't get a whole lot of sun. Sun is hard to come by in my shady yard. BUT the Giant Purple Crinum is a giant as can be and has been blooming constantly since spring. It now has 2 inflo on it. That's a first for me.

Mine just keeps spitting out a lot of leaves but no blooms yet. Maybe I should move it to a sunnier site. It's still in the huddle I placed it in for cold weather.

Cold weather. Ha!

I had a rogue this year, nestled in with those milk n wine types, surprised me, but figure it was a mixed clump when transported home. Just got finished butchering petunia baskets, I will be happy if they survive, not surprised if I waited too long Sighing!
