I posted one of these in the perennials forum but I think it's worth re-posting here:

@Seedfork - Larry, as always, your garden looks amazing!! I can't believe the size of your elephant ear! I hope ours gets much bigger than it is now...and that hydrangea has the prettiest shade of blue! We're getting our first hydrangeas this fall!! Hurray!

I had thought these were gone and were not going to return, but they are still in the garden. So far four small clumps have bloomed.
They lived up to their name: Surprise Lilies (Lycoris)

I heard about those -- they're really beautiful! So delicate!

Seeing them in your yard makes me want to buy some for my garden! Hilarious!

Hi all. I usually just lurk but wanted to say something about surprise, or as they are also called around here, hurricane Lillies. I have some that have been here a very long time. They really do surprise from year to year as they won't come up and bloom every year. If they feel they have gotten enough water they come up. But whatever that magic amount is is a mystery to me. We had lots of rain this year but none of the ones that bloomed last year came up. Meanwhile, some I haven't seen in a couple of years are now in bloom. They are beautiful lillies but expect them to always surprise you.

Well done, everyone!

Except for the Brugs, the blooms are not for me. It's all about the bees, hummers, butterflies. Some of these things blooms most of the year!

Coleus. One of these days I will manage to get a pic of hummingbird methodically visiting every little flower.
