Why would a new plant be denied? Meant to say it DOES exist in title

I have found my denials are generally related to an incorrect botanical name. And, most often, the plant is already in the database under the correct name. What did you propose as the botanical name? I did a quick internet search and found some seeds offered on EBay but that listing did not give a botanical name, just 'Russian marigold chrysanthemum style.' Pretty flowers, hopefully you can get to the bottom of it and submit some photos and such.

ZuZu can probably explain this to you, Keith. The Cat of Life is used a lot in deciding which plants will be in our database here.

It would be nice if someone explained, especially since I am growing this plant and feel it should be in. It was denied by @KentPfeiffer but I can't even contact him. The proof they asked is not right, just because it's not well known and the only link I had was from ebay doesn't mean it's not real. I have family in Russia that sent it, I even have my seed pack as proof!

Post a photo here of the seed packet, so we can try to figure out the proper name of this plant.

@Dave, Here is it, straight from Russia. By the way I did post its scientific name (Tagetes erecta tall) and it was still denied, you should update your submissions method by also allowing photos to be uploaded and not rely solely on links as proof they are real.

This is what you proposed:

Genus: Tagetes
Species: erecta tall
Cultivar: Chrysanthemum shape
Trade name: Russian Marigold
Series: Chrysanthemum shape
Common name: Russian Marigold

Almost everything about that is wrong.

This plant is not part of a series and has no trade name. Also, "Chrysanthemum shape" is not a cultivar name, it is a description of the plant and does not belong anywhere in the plant entry. Ditto with the word "tall" - that is not part of the species epithet.

You have a yellow form of African Marigold (Tagetes erecta)

@Dave, this is no ordinary African Marigold it's a new cultivar. and if my information was wrong could you not just add it yourself to the database in the correct manner?

It's listed here, http://www.herbgarden.co.za/mo...

It must be very new or rare, but I stand by the cultivar name. Unless you can read Russian this is the best I can give you

Maybe there is none, but there is a common name and that's the best you can get. Maybe you can look it up, Here is the company site that sells them http://www.asemena.ru

Or I'll just make one up being there is none and nobody owns these apparently but me, so call it Chyrsanthemum

Yikes Keith! We can't just 'make one up' for a cultivar name - the whole idea is to create an accurate database with verified information. Perhaps we could reach out to any Russian members we might have to interpret the seed packet? Think of this as a puzzle rather than a hurdle.

You can't make up a cultivar name for the database.

My suggestion is to use the regular species plant for whatever purpose you want. If you're wanting this in your Plant List, you can add it there using whatever name you want.
