I grow my Amaryllis in pots in a sunny window in the winter and on a patio when warm weather comes. Fall is here and it is supposed to be 40 tonight so after Sunday dinner yesterday I had my family carry 25 pots downstairs for a dormant period. The bulbs looked great.....nice and plump. My Daughter made a comment about "Obsessive Behavior" when she saw all the plants. I better enjoy what I have on not go looking for more......maybe

That's a lot of pots to haul downstairs. But they must like their growing conditions since they are doing so well at the end of the summer.

Ha, I think most of us have more plants than is practical, but heck, they really are fun! My girls shake their heads when they see my houseplants and greenhouse. Right now I'm dragging a lot of plants inside both places because they can't survive outdoors.

I like to leave mine outside as long as possible - that way they sun is back by the time they start throwing up foliage, unfortunately that also means they don't bloom until February/March...

and what would Christmas be without blooming amaryllis in the house? My christmas cactus will be spent by then, and poinsettias are always disappointing and messy with the way they start dropping leaves the minute they leave the greenhouse, so what other option is there? I HAVE TO buy more..

How's that for hoarding in denial?

I went but no Amaryllis yet. They are coming in a couple of weeks. They did have some nice African Violets so I didn't come home empty handed.......
