Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

About a mile down the street from me there a large Vietnamese temple with beautiful gardens that can be seen from the street. A couple of years ago they had lotus growing in plastic tubs, but I haven't seen them since. I guess I'm going to have to go into the parking lot, and have a look around.
