dave said:No maximum but the images will be resized down to 1000 pixels max.

Would you like a full size image, e.g. 4000px & a copy re-sized to 1000?
Or just one full size? Or just a 1000px?

Just want to save you the extra work to re-size, so they are "ready-to-go". Smiling

It's all automated so there is no work on our part. If you upload a photo that is larger than 1000px then it will automatically be resized by the Garden.org server.

Is the new 'Fall Colors' thing considered a contest? Ok. That was weird. If I submitted something to add to Fall Colors that we are doing for November, could I still submit it to the Photo Contest? (Does that make sense or should I find a 3rd way to phrase it?)

I'm pretty sure they are 2 different things, so you can still submit it to the photo contest.

IMHO, that is, as far as I know, they are two separate things, and the Fall Colors thing is not a contest.

Yes, I believe that you can submit anything to the photo contest that you have not submitted to a previous NGA contest. If you've never submitted to a NGA contest, that means anything you have. If you have submitted, the previously-submitted photos will be listed for you under your profile (scroll down a bit and you'll find [your user name]'s photo contest submissions). Clicking any links there will display the photos you've previously submitted.

HTH!

Thanks. Glad someone understood what I was trying to ask. Of course I have no such picture(s) but always like a hypothetical just in case.

Me too. The pictures from last year were stunning. I'm a little confused about the categories that people chose to put their pictures in, but it didn't take away from the beauty/skill/art (choose your adjective) of the photographs.

The categories can be a tad confusing, especially the misc. and macros. I'm never sure if closeups are considered macros, or if macros has to be super-duper close up. Confused I guess that, if we submit incorrectly, they'll be weeded out.

But I do have to agree--I can't wait to see all the submissions! I'm excited to vote on them, but more than that, I really want to SEE them! We do have some amazing photographers here!

Two Quick questions:

1. Should a bi-annual be put in the annual category? E.g. geranium maderense

2. What category are dahlias?

I probably would submit a photo of a biennial in the Perennials category, but it could also go in the Annuals category. Actually, many of the photos entered in the Annuals category are perennials. People don't seem to have a good grasp of the difference.

Dahlias probably should be in a category of their own, but there isn't a Dahlias category, so the photos are entered as Perennials, Bulbs, Miscellaneous, or even Annuals.

That's very funny. Why bother with categories at all? Rolling on the floor laughing

I won't worry about it then. Thank You!

The decision is up to the submitter and their thought process.

I would put a pic of Dahlias with bulbs. Although it's not a true bulb, I've always considered them in that category of bulbs, tubers, rhizomes & corms. Dormant rhizomes are sold with the displays of bulbs, and the books I've had about bulbs always include many tuberous, rhizomatous, & corm plants.

One could also make an argument for submitting as annual if they live where the plant is not hardy and are unaware it's a perennial in warmer climates.

One could make an argument that it's just another perennial.

I can also see someone thinking of it as a tropical plant.

Bottom line, it's just for fun. Trying to critique the categorization of the submissions might just be unsatisfying. Similarly, each voter will have their own set of criteria.

I get confused because many things which are planted as annuals here are perennial in milder climes. Then there are tender perennials. We will not be penalized for an occasional error..... Hilarious!

I suggest there be only one category & stipulation......the photo must feature something that produces chlorophyll. Thumbs up
That would save much time and anguish. I spent a significant amount of time just trying to decide which photo
went in which category. It reminds me of this commercial Hilarious!

I have some nice pics of seaweed, but will save them for next year. Green Grin!
