I don't know why it wouldn't grow for you! It grows in full sun to part shade, with low to average water requirements. For our area, I cut it back in late winter, and watch it come back from the roots. If we have a mild winter, it may not die back, but it benefits from being cut back, regardless--it can get a little too tall and floppy by fall. It grows easily from seed.
