Being a gardener for all seasons means appreciating foliage as much as bloom. Our forums reflect individuals who appreciate both. Certain genus databases however reflect a significant disdain for what this gardener considers a showy bloom. I'd like to thank Heuchera Forum moderator NJBob for approving my "Flowers" data change from Insignificant to Showy for H. 'Snow Angel'. Now off to the Hosta database to test the waters.

Thanks Evan. I know Heuchera are more known for their foliage and the original descriptions that were picked up mostly say insignificant. I can only assume that single flower is being described , But when in mass as a well grown plant they are showy.

That's an interesting observation, Evan and Bob, and a comment on changing styles. When I started gardening, there was only one Heuchera widely available in commerce and we all bought six-packs of Coral Bells every year for the front of our borders. We grew them only for the blooms because the foliage was "insignificant." Some of those tiny plants are still thriving in my garden after 30 years, whereas the new fancy-foliaged ones generally melt away after a while.

I agree, I saw that the Hosta were detailed as Blooms: Insignificant and my first thought, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. To me they aren't insignificant, they are a welcome bonus.

Is "welcome bonus" an option in the DB?
