I just wanted to float this idea out there and see what you all thought.

What do you think about us holding a raffle, where you can buy tickets with a certain set amount of acorns. Then we do a random drawing (video taped, of course!) and the winner gets a generously sized gift certificate to the gardening company of your choice.

I was thinking it would be either 50 acorns or 100 acorns to buy one ticket. The gift certificate amount I was thinking was $100.

If I held such a raffle, would you buy a ticket?

I think so but the gift certificate would be in USD. The company you wanted would need to be able to provide me with a way to get you a certificate for 100 USD.

That said, I probably would NOT buy a ticket, but that's mainly because I generally don't buy raffle tickets, due to never winning anything in them.

I think it is a neat idea, but i tend to not win anything either, and besides that I love my acorns and want to hold on to them for a while, sort of like a savings account. Smiling

Honestly, I probably would not participate. I'd rather save them for a sure thing, like the t-shirts or mugs, rather than a remote possibility of maybe winning something. Guess I'm not much of a risk-taker. Hilarious!

It sounds like fun! I need to go to another botanical garden and take more photos (or better yet, have Charles take the photos... he's much better at it than I am.) I don't have enough acorns to play yet.

I would buy tickets.
However, and I am sure you have access to this information, Dave: Are there a sufficient number people who have that amount of acorns for this to be a fair (site-wide) game? I am sure that is why you are asking people..... maybe it needs to have a banner on the front page so everyone sees it?

I love the way you guys keep coming up with neat ideas!! Thumbs up

I think it's a good idea, too. We have people who have put so much hard work into the database they have amassed thousands of acorns. It gives them something to use them for. What does a gardener like better than new plants?

I wouldn't play, but I think it's a great idea.

You not only supply your members with a little excitement, you encourage them to accumulate more acorns by contributing to the site. Good idea!

And I don't think it needs to be "fair" to all members. Not if it is considered a reward for participation in helping you build the site.

My favorite saying is, "You get out of something, as much as you put into it." Whether it's a pet, a marriage, an education, or a website.

There are 101 members who have more than 50 acorns in their stash. I will send them all a system message sending them to this thread, I think that'll help tell everyone who is eligible for this!
