Surely edible, a very common in tropics (at least my country), the taste are quite variable depending on varieties, but most fruits are watery mildly sweet, with a little astringency, like an mild snow pear
A good variety can be quite sweet with no astringent at all. I prefer the green one, cause most of them are sweet, even when they are not fully ripen.
When it is hot, it is very refreshing to serve it cold with ice, some time we also sprinkle sugar.
Also a common fruit to be included in fruit salad, whether sweet or sour/hot-pepper/salty sauce or with peanut-sauce dressing, a traditional food locally called "Rujak"
