Here is a quick, short idea.

Some of us have relatives who no longer need their shower seat. Or you can buy one for free at a thrift store or yard sale.

This shower seat makes a great place to sit while weeding or working in the garden. Waterproof, made of plastic and aluminum, washable.

Note: When the ground is soggy or soft, place an appropriately sized board under the legs or you might sink.

I used to use a milk carton as a seat but, I gotta say, there is a limit to the amount of weight. I busted through two plastic milk cartons before I realized I was a 'wide body' and needed a wider runway to land on. *Blush*

Eventually, the plastic 'feet' on the shower chair will need to be replaced. My plan for that is to purchase 4 aluminum deck flanges similar to these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ITPPQUW/
Then to screw the flanges to some pressure treated lumber so the chair can be used even when the ground is very soft after the rain, as that is a good time to pull weeds.

Salvation Army stores usually have several of these for a very low price.

I find that Freecycle is a great place to ask for giveaways of this sort.

BUT, they're really not that expensive. I bought one recently at a local pharmacy for about $20.

Happy new year everyone! Hurray!

The height is adjustable. I think maybe from 14 inches up to 21 inches. Some of these seats are not height-adjustable so check before you buy. The legs are spread out a bit wider than the seat for stability, somewhere around 18 inches by 13 inches more or less. I think the seat maybe 20-21 inches wide and there are convenient hand-holes to lift and move the seat. Measurements differ by manufacturer but there are ADA requirements that the companies must adhere to.

Most websites will list dimensions, sometimes in the product description, and sometimes under "specs" or specifications.

Here's an example for you but on this one, you have to click "read more" to view the dimensions:

I generally get stuff at the roadside when it is set out as trash, and thrift stores and/or yard sales are a good place to look. These seats can be very affordable, as low as $15 to $20 brand new...never been sat on by anyone!

Greene, I was thinking about those bare bottoms that may have used them when I posted about the Salvation Army Stores having them, or about getting them free via Freecycle (we all know about Freecycle, right?) but then I remembered that gardners wouldn't usually sit on them with their bare bottoms, so it's probably okay.

First, the serious answer...I always, always wash, clean and disinfect anything I pick up at the roadside or at thrift/yard sales. It's a must!

Yeah.....no.

I find gardening to be fun with my clothes on. We've got enough problems out here with blackflies, mosquitoes and ticks getting us in our exposed areas WITH our protective clothing on! I would not dare to give them a naked buffet. Not to mention the neighbors...

And then you'd have to sterilize that seat again.

Going back to the original idea of a shower seat for working in the garden...

The first thing that came to mind was that yoga mat that I have never used!

Why sit in the garden when you could be lying down?
