Well surprise, surprise -- the above freezing temp. that were forecast for some days in the next ten days have gone Pfffft, tain't there no mo.

I had though about shoveling the sleet/drizzle that built up on the sidewalk yesterday evening but when I went out it was still coming down so I did not.

Now the side walk is covered icy snow/sleet which has frozen as puddles in places and if I shovel it off, there will still be a skin coat that will freeze into true slippery ice, therefore; as the wind is blowing hard now, and walking on that rough crust is safer than walking on ice, I will leave it.
I may go out and put down some ice melt in places which also just creates melt water but as the saying goes: It is the thought that counts -- as much of bs as that rhetoric really is.

Bought Sharon a dozen red roses a few days ago for 24 bucks; today Aldi's had the same amount listed for 10 bucks but I had no intention of trying to get there before they sold out.

Now with the crappy weather we have right now, 17 degrees and very windy, they might not sell out in an hour as they usuallydo -- Que sera, sera. Shrug!

I'm sure that Sharon appreciates the Roses! Same issue with the driveway, at least there is enough bumps in it that its not super slippery; thank winter tires make a huge difference, instead of a cow on roller skates, its more like a mountain goat.
Temps are going steadily down with snow falling.

We ended up with about 3 inches of snow overnight and the temp here stayed around 30° all day, no melting snow or freezing rain. Our "local" news comes from Marquette and they are apparently getting hit pretty good with snow up near L. Superior - happy to be living here in the banana belt!

It is -1 at 1:20 ; I just came in from spreading ice melt on sheets of ice out on the side walk.

There are sheets of ice on the lawn where I blew snow for the mail man but I do not think ice melt is that good for the lawn, and he can walk on the ice crusted snow.

I did not feel that cold out there as I did not where a jacket but I did have gloves on. I tip my hat to you.

Technically it has not but in two day we will go from ten to twenty degrees above average to ten to twenty degrees below average for at least one week.

Could be a nippy Thanksgiving. Shrug!

I have to go home and put them on , should have done it a month ago, but I usually wait until they should have been on already.
True Winter is coming right about the day Fall ends; I wish I still was thin enough and had the money to go skiing.
We will not be officially celebrating Christmas till the week after Roman Christmas and a week before Orthodox Christmas, but with the weather coming, probably the best as Sharon is not a good passenger is nasty weather. Whistling
Merry Christmas.

Yesterday's weather bit ended up in my potato and corn thread, so here is today':

32 degrees right now, it stopped snowing about one-half hour ago.
Weather Service says we got 5 inches, so it is time to put on my jacket and shovel/blow snow.

Yesterday I shoveled with a vest and long-sleeve button down shirt but a loose fittig shirt like that is not real warm, but I still camin with arms soaked from sweat.
I think I will put on a T-shirt and coat today, I will still come in like wet rag, but stay warmer while doing so.

Not getting home today as it is still snowing at home and I will be tired after clearing the snow, plus I have to pick up a new toilet flap and two bags of ice-melt.
Ten days till Christmas so Merry Christmas and Happy Lager Beer Week. I tip my hat to you.

Happy to say that we woke up today to less than an inch of snow on the ground (last night was supposed to be the worst of the storm for us), we mostly got rain. Our temps have been staying in the mid 30s, but next week at this time the prediction is for highs in the teens - I guess at that point it will feel like winter HAS arrived.

I'm guessing we have close to a foot of snow on the ground. A couple inches from before that hadn't melted and around 8 inches the last storm. It's -5 right now and -10 and -12 highs forecasted for a couple of days this week.
The deer were digging in the perennials, especially the daylilies and uncovered them so I'm glad we got the snow for insulation before the bitter cold came. There are fresh deer tracks coming into my big garden from every direction but they haven't been digging as much since the snow. I ground up some Irish Spring soap and put it around in the daylilies before the big snow came so I don't know if that helped or if they've already eaten everything there that they wanted.

Susie, brrrrrrr! Our daytime temps have been staying in the mid to high 20s, supposed to be in the teens this coming week, but after Christmas predicted to go back into the low to mid 30s. Lake Michigan must still be keeping us a bit warmer than usual - it would definitely be unusual to have relatively mild weather for New Year's!

I got a ride back from home tonight, my car needs new head gasket/s (not wise to do just one) for a so far estimate of 1,600 dollars.
Car is still at home and I will go back next week to take it to the garage.
If it were not for Christmas ( and coming blizzard) I would have stayed there but can't do that now.

Finally got a Christmas Tree last Saturday; I would have gone to a tree farm but car heater decided to quit working, again, lack of fluid so I went straight home and went to Menard's.
Small , only 6 1/2 feet high, but only cost 32 dollars on sale. (Side note: I stopped at Kingston , Mn at a convience store gast staton {sadly on business left in town} and bought anti-freeze for only 9 dollars a jug , dollars less than most places.)

Brother came home and we celebrated his Birthday and Christmas on Sat.; my one Cousin came over so it was not just he and I but it was the smallest Christmas celebration I have ever had.
Did get to decorating the tree till after both left, and (with the car being a major misery) I was almost depressed to the point I thought why do this. Sighing!
BUT
I got the light strings strung up, most annoying part of decorating a tree, and once I started putting the balls on, my attituded improved, and then I thought, I will not be going home till Wed. so I can do some organizing (books, magazines and Christmas Decorations) but then then while listening to the radio, the nasty weather forecast started , so, my day of actually getting the old shack looking better went pfft. Shrug!

Nice little, to me, tree and I love the old C7 1/2 size lights as there is large variety of vintage bulbs, still around, though some are far from cheap any more, and the variety of color shades and shapes always make me smile. Thumbs up

5 to 8 inches of light snow is forecast for tomorrow with winds of up to 50 mph to hit on Thursday. Thank You!

Merry Christmas

It is 7 below zero at 1:23 P.M. and forecast says our high of the day will be -2.

Still snowing outside so I have not blown off the sidewalk of parking lot yet.
Snow is light and we have at most four inches so far.
I tip my hat to you.

We are -10 at 1:23 with wind at 10 to 20 mph. Sun is shining, and the snow quit here in the middle of the night. I haven't been out since yesterday and it was bitterly cold. The snow is deep enough that I won't be walking anywhere except where it has been plowed. It has not been above zero for more then a week but it is suppose to get up to 4 above on Sunday and then a bit of a warm up next week. I'm looking forward to that, this old body doesn't do nearly as well as it use to with the cold. I'm ready for Spring!!! Hilarious!

A couple of inches fell after I finished snowblowing yesterday and I am not sure if I will bother to shovel it or not.
I may get out the lawn blower and blow it off, it is actially less slippery leaving the snow there as the side walk has that slick coating of ice that the snow melt leaves

7 below right now, and this hour is the high of the day as , forecast, at Four P.M. the temps. will go back to double digits below zero.
Not cold enough yet for me to put on Long John's but I am wearing long sleeve heavier cotton shirts; may dig out my Lumberjack boots as the daily leather shoes I wear not good for slippery surfaces.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and may you have a blesseed Forefathers' Day. I tip my hat to you.

Well I wussed out, I went and put gasoline in Sharon's automobile and drove back thinking I will at least remove some of hte snow.
Now the wind has picked up and it is minus Ten Fahrenheit, I went out with the shovel removed one snow drift and cleaned of a renter's steps then I looked , I could see the snow blowing on other drifts and I had not been out long enough for my face to get used to the nippy wind, so, I figured remove the drifts to day they will be back in a hour or so, so, shoveling would be good exercise and a waste of time.

I stopped at a Walmart on the way home to get some bird feed, and that place was packed with people.
The bird feed was actually over in/by the Christmas decoration area and I partly wanted to do some window shopping like I did all the time most years past, but I had her car so I figured some other day, hopefully.
I used to, often, just stroll through Christmas doo-dad areas (actually buying more often in the past) like I did as a youth (yes that includes the toy section) at this time of year.

I do not need any more Christmas Tree balls (one thing I used to go to Dept. Stores to buy often) but my brother showed me , online, some balls at Etsy.
Did not buy those, SixtySeven dollars for six, but did buy 12 Shiny Brite balls, two designs, for 25 bucks shipping included.
Three days till Jesus birth is celebrated followed by 11 more days, of course then the Orthodox Christmas is Jan. 6 so actually there are 24 days of Christmas.
Merry Christmas.

Well, one thing is for sure - I'm not going to be moving in with any of you anytime soon! (did I just hear a sigh of relief out there...?)

I think the lowest temp we've hit is 2° a few nights ago, and the lowest coming up is 5° on Christmas night; day temps are in the mid teens and low 20s - until next Wednesday, then we're predicted to go up into the 30s. Crazy!

It's been snowing here all day but not much has actually accumulated - maybe 3 or 4 inches?; however, I'd better go out and check on the greenhouses tomorrow if they haven't managed to shed it themselves by then. And no doubt hubs will be doing some snowblowing to get the driveway cleaned out so it doesn't turn into a lot of slush when the warmer temps come around. What a fun time of year Hilarious!

RpR, you made me feel rather nostalgic for the times that I would also just go "browsing" through the stores at Christmas time (and actually pretty much any time of the year, now that I think about it). I need to do that again! Maybe the fun kind of went out of it once I could actually afford to buy something I liked... Rolling my eyes.
