Hit the Parkway for almost four hours yesterday (partly cloudy, strong wind gusts with temperatures in the mid teens) and this image of (Heron) Minnie Pete probably conveys how many folks feel right now:
And then there was a dabbing Mallard:
That may put a chill in your bones, but he seemed to just shake (flap) it off:
Fortunately, all of us were using feathers to keep warm.
If any of you travel to Argentina you can download a free Cell Phone application from "Aves argentinas" here: http://www.avesargentinas.org....
It will show you the photo and the song of many birds from Argentina. It is very useful when you want to identify a bird. I have it in my cell phone.
WOW! what great pictures of the different birds. I'm jealous. My weather here is 1 right now and the birds are going crazy for seeds. I've noticed that the squirrels will stay away from the seeds if you give them peanuts. But this morning I threw out some cut-up apple and it was a hit. It kept them away from the feeder for a bit so the birds could feast on seeds.
During yesterday's stroll along the Little Lehigh, I did spot some of the usual suspects (more on that later), but the were a few different actors. First, while I have seen this one from time to time, this is the only time I have manage get reasonable images of what I believe is a Belted Kingfisher:
Also, a European(?) Sparrow came so close and hung around so long that I paused watching Herons and took a few images of it:
I did spot some Juncos at the start of the walk, but couldn't get close:
The Lights in the Parkway display is over, but I did catch an image of one item before it is removed:
Seven Canada Geese also visited the Parkway, but I am still sorting through those images.
@marsrover enjoyed each of your images today; especially the Belted Kingfisher.
Everyone ; the Kingfisher family is striking! I might post a couple today also then to share.
Taken on a sunny but cold morning in June/2014 at Kings Canyon, N.T., this Red-backed Kingfisher was battling against the winds; and me too, trying to focus on it.
North Central Massachusetts (N (Zone 5b) Life & gardens: make them beautiful
And, not my picture (sorry), but I thought you all might like to see what the Kingfisher looks like in the middle east. They are beautiful, interesting, and often seen.

The kingfisher is a beauty Carole. Funny how they differ from place to place.
Here is a Red Tailed hawk from our drive yesterday. It was pretty far away from the road and I didn't want to venture too far onto someones property so pics aren't so great. This guy was huge!
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
I have only seen Canada Geese in the Lehigh Parkway a couple of times. So, shortly after I passed the Klein's [foot]bridge, it was surprising to spot seven of them in the Little Lehigh:
Later in the day the geese had shifted downstream to just above the Robin Hood Bridge. I got images at both locations. First some individual geese:
Next. some pairs:
Then, two standing images:
Ending with a group of four:
I wonder when some will visit again?
