This bud is still growing!

Speaking of buds, and also speaking of Ferocactus, here are the first buds on my F. (now B.) histrix, about a decade earlier than expected (now age 10, in an 8 inch pot).
I got this plant for the edible fruit, and I might not see any right away, but there are a couple of younger ones around in case the plant isn't self fertile (or even if it is).
Yesterday I installed two plants from that genus in the garden (glaucescens) from 3 and 5 gallon squat pots. Looking forward to having lots and lots of barrels in the ground out there.

She uses tomato fertilizer 1/2 strength and pours the liquid right over the cacti. I had always tried not to get my cacti wet, just the soil, but I suppose the fertilizer gets absorbed by pores in the cactus as well as by the roots. I have a huge container of tomato fertilizer in the basement which I am going to mix up and try her method once it warms up a bit more outside.

@Gigi, your fertilizer may do the trick, as it has high P and K in it.
