The thread on color got me thinking that it might be fun to post pictures of our favorite irises, now that iris ordering season is almost upon us, and here are some of my favorite blues. Only a very few months to go before we start seeing our blooms, guys!

And this last one is technically an amoena, but I wanted to include it with the blues -- totally love DREAMLIFE.

Very nice, Jo Ann! I just love the dwarfies -- but they won't bloom for me because our winter climate is too warm.

There are drwabacks to living in California I guess.

I hanker for Bouganvilla but alas not here.

I am posting a new blue I just planted this summer.Its not my photo but I will pix mine in May.

Thanks for posting that photo, Jo Ann -- It's one of mine that I authorized and gave to Dee to use. And actually NANCY'S LACE is a deep plum purple. And isn't it a beauty? I just love it!

Thats a great image. I have another that makes the blooms look more lavander than plum.
Not to get of topic too much I have NL paired with allium purple sensation.I am excited to see it bloom,I have 3 planted together,hope for a real show.

Betty, I've always loved Yaquina Blue.

I love blue iris! Still looking for the perfect one, but here are my favorites of the many I grow.

Blue Trill - as the flowers age, the falls fade to white and it becomes more of a reverse amoena than a true "blue iris". Still, when it first opens, it's my favorite light blue iris. And when the flowers age, it is among my favorite reverse amoenas!


Sea Power - seems to be on an every other year bloom cycle in my garden, but it is glorious when it does bloom.


Continuity - could use more ruffles, but I love the color. Love the beard, too.


Queen Of Elegance - elegance indeed


Jordan's Joy - love the dark blue violet infusions on an otherwise light blue iris


Donaghcloney - the best of the many "dark blue" iris I've grown


Rapture In Blue - this one transforms quite a bit in color as the flowers age. This is my favorite stage.


Abiqua Falls - another one that changes color as the flowers age. It's the grandchild of Rapture In Blue so perhaps that is where it comes from. Close to perfect when it is this color.


Into The Blue - child of Abiqua Falls, great grandchild of Rapture In Blue. Quite the line of light blue iris that the Schreiner family has produced.

This is No Count Blues, a bonus I got from Schreiners. It's the only blue one I own

Ohhhh yeah, I forgot about JORDAN'S JOY. Here it was at Schreiner's, and then again in my yard in the shade -- much bluer in the shade!



And ABIQUA falls has such substance! I really love it. I have INTO THE BLUE also, but it hasn't bloomed for me yet -- can't wait.

Jan, I'm not familiär with NO COUNT BLUES, but the colors look fantastic. Thank you everyone for posting pictures of these wonderful blues!
