After reading you article I decided to check on the number of trees on my three acre corner. We lost twenty two trees to Katrina. I still have lots of trees all around the whole plot I easily and quickly counted over 100. Pines, Oaks, Sweet Gum' Then there are the twenty or so in the interior. I keep an acre and a half clear mowed for the kids to play all there foot ball and baseball games ride there bikes and anything else they can think of. After seeing all the damage from the storm to say nothing of BP, I can say that Mother Nature heals herself very well. Butttt everyone needs to let her. This area cuts and replants trees all the time in a cycle of about twenty years. Yes they clear cut clean up and replant. And so it goes. We make it a point to add special trees every year. I have the usual trees for the area plus large Magnolia, gigantic 250 year old oak that has seen better days. Japanese Magnolias, Arizona Cypress, Leylands Japanese Maple, Mulberry, several pecan so I think I'm good. I know I have too many Mimosa and lots of other trash tress that I did not count. I need to get them out so the more desirable trees will have room to do there thing. I also have too many Tung oil trees but I do so love their blooms and the shape of the leaves. I will make it a point to add two to my collection instead of one just because.......shirleyt my view as I have my morning coffee choosing to be in or out.... wish you could come on over
