thank you all. it is especially nice because there's no other iris open in the garden right now. 'yonkers' is close to blooming, but not for another day or two.

if you look through my collection of irises, you'll see i'm not a super big fan of yellows and oranges, but i think 'cd' will have a place in it for a while. especially, if it blooms early every year. it's planted near a 'gold dust' croton, and the color repeat is a pleasing textural contrast.

i must confess i did not take a full shot of the area because DH in his enthusiastic edging of the lawn, whacked all of 'carpe diem's' foliage to tattered shreds on one side. Sighing! Grumbling he's a mow n blow guy, and Not a gardener, or garden enthusiast. now if it came on the end of a fishing pole or a golf club, why that's a whole different story.....he'd pay more attention to the details. Hilarious!

Daphne, 'CD' is beautiful! Hurray!

My DH likes his mower too, but he knows to steer well clear of my plants _especially_ the irises - or else! Grumbling

Daphne ~ Do your rebloomers usually bloom this late?
January? Maybe it is because you live in Southern California.

thank you robin, mika, and evelyn.

technically, it's not considered a rebloomer, evelyn. it's a mid to late, and i planted it mid-september of 2017. i also had a confused late 'naughty nights', that was posted on the last few days of december. 'nn' is considered a late bloomer. ('nn' was it's 1st time blooming, planted 2016). that said, i don't know if some of my "lates" are going to be blooming in oct., nov., dec., and maybe even jan.?

because if it's the cooling off or chill they need to prompt them to bloom late, after the hot summer? i'm not sure".

typically, we don't start cooling down in the evenings until after halloween.

since my iris garden in san diego is 3 years new, there's not been enough 'go-around ' experience with the seasons for me to say anything with authority. but checking with other iris enthusiasts at the sdis, they have told me, " expect to have bloom all year long. but, don't expect huge clumps of muliple bloom stalks." another member has said, "you'll be lucky to have two or three stalks at a time."

in one respect, it will be great to have irises blooming 10 or so months out of the year. but, i won't be seeing the huge clumps that most of you will be enjoying, when the irises are showing off in their splendid glory.☹️

'yonkers' bloomed yesterday, but didn't get a chance to photograph it....so posting today

Thumb of 2018-01-24/shizen/a7fe92
i am enjoying this shorter iris, and according to my records, it bloomed mid-march last year.

because of the early date last year, i am wondering if my early's will start blooming in january if conditions are right?

Thumb of 2018-01-24/shizen/a4eba5
took another pic of the whole 'carpe diem' so you may see the chewed up leaves and the gold dust against the fence.

my next big project is to paint/stain the back fence this spring. still working on this bed, but didn't want to plant it heavily until i finish the fence. irises still waiting in pots Grumbling too many projects, too little time. D'Oh!

We all have lists of garden chores, Daphne. I cross off the ones at the top and add on a few at the bottom. Never ending story. Beautiful blooms you have there. Smiling
