I recently sent a Private Mail to someone here about joining AHS with its benefits. And then I thought that I better check to make sure that I was correct. I sent a note to the mother robin (the AHS Robin that started the internet daylily interest) and asked for all the correct info.

Julie Covington, the new AHS president was quick to send a reply, as was Tim Fehr, who is AHS webmaster and the guy who started it all on the internet!

Below are quips from their messages:

From Julie -

YES, this voucher program still exists and when new members join, our Executive Secretary Pat Mercer sends them a list of participating vendors and a voucher for $25 ( or more) discount on daylilies. Some vendors also
offer a special discount to members and/or youth members. As of January
30, AHS had added 191 new members so they will all be eligible to participate in the Voucher program. Also, any renewing member who upgrades their membership from a 1 to a 3 year membership or to a life membership will receive a voucher.

At present, the 2011 list of participating vendors is still on the website, but we are working on a new list. As I understand, there are only a couple of changes from the 2011 list. We will hopefully have the new list up and
running very soon.

Here is the link to the list of participating vendors:
http://www.daylilies.org/Vouch...

Also, just for everyone to keep in mind for this summer, AHS will reinstate the Trial memberships which began last year!! This will happen on July 1,
2012. If your club has summer sales or shows, please be sure to have a
few membership applications available and let people know that they can join
with a Trial membership for half a year for only $15. We decided to keep
the program because it has proved to be successful. As of January 30, 37%
of those who became trial members in 2011 have already renewed for 2012, and we expect that number to go up.

*****

From Tim -

The Voucher Program is still going on, it’s featured on the Membership Information pages on the Portal and on the AHS site.

Voucher specific information is available here:

http://www.daylilies.org/Vouch...

Unfortunately, the voucher program invitation to new daylily vendors wishing to participate needs to be updated and the link on that page will point to the new files as soon as I get it. Right now, the link doesn’t work as the file was out of date. You caught us between updates.

And the Ombudsman person just sent this from an article she posted not long ago.

ASK THE OMBUDSMAN –VOUCHER PROGRAM

AHS has had the voucher program for a couple of years now. But some new
members still don’t understand the facts. It is an excellent incentive to encourage
gardeners to join the AHS. Not only do they receive the excellent Daylily Journal
four times a year, but also a voucher which pays for their yearly membership.
Let’s encourage our local members to join Nationally.

PROBLEM: We understand that AHS has introduced a new voucher program that allows new members free daylilies. Our club does not fully understand just what they need to do to join this program. Can you help us?

SOLUTION: It is really a very simple process that your club needs to do.
As soon as you have a new member, send in their name/s with the membership check/s to Pat Mercer (Executive Secretary-Membership) P.O. Box 10, Dexter, GA 31019. The member will soon receive a letter from Pat explaining the program, the voucher that entitles the member to obtain the daylily, and the list of hybridizers who will honor the voucher. Some hybridizers require you to order a certain amount before they honor the voucher, while others will just send you the daylily which can be worth $25.00 and in some cases more. You will probably be required to pay shipping. An important note on the voucher program is that it applies to all new AHS members as well as current members with a one-year membership who upgrade to a three-year membership.

For more detailed information check the website www.daylilies.org or contact Pat Mercer through email: [email protected].

Thanks Bobbie for posting about this! I wasn't aware of the voucher program way back when I joined. Maybe they didn't have it then, not sure - after all Ben Franklin was in the first club I joined - so it was a long time ago! Rolling my eyes.

I'd love to see more posts about AHS. I grew daylilies for a long time before I even knew there was an AHS. So, it is good to let new people know what advantages there are to being a member of AHS. And to becoming a garden judge! I loved being a garden judge. I never took the classes to become an exhibition judge, but I think a person would learn a lot taking the classes.

I LOVED the voucher program. Using my voucher, I ordered from Maryotts - and was I impressed. I not only received beautiful scapes, but got a new intro as a bonus! And, 2 of the 4 bloomed last summer, then one even rebloomed!

I am thrilled with AHS, and the magazine. In fact, I just renewed for my second year. I don't believe the cost to belong is unreasonable. ~Jan

In addition to receiving the 4 issues of The Daylily Journal, you automatically become a member of your AHS Region and will receive your region's "newletter". You will receive some of the major hybridizers' catalogs featuring their new intros and now have access to the new AHS Portal. The membership dues are well worth what you get as a member. The voucher alone pays for your dues.

Shannon, I jumped right in growing some from seeds. It was very fun last year - they were like my babies! If you want to give it a try, I have a bunch of heirloom dips (unnamed) seeds you can 'practice' with, send me a private mail with your address & I will send you some to play with. Have no clue what will grow or what they will look like, but it's a fun experiment ~Jan

The voucher comes in the mail, it may not have had time to be generated, mailed and recieved yet. If you don't recieve something within a week you might try writing to:
Pat Mercer,
AHS Executive Secretary
P.O. Box 10
Dexter, Georgia 31019
[email protected]

Just to make sure that they have you on the membership list. I do recall reading somewhere that they were in the process of updating the list of participating vendors and the site wasn't up to date yet. Good Luck.

Oh dear,

It must be the AHS portal that you wish to look into?

The regular AHS site is open to all.

The portal needs a password.

I have written to the new AHS pres, Julie Covington. I am sure she will respond shortly.
