What a miracle. We got 3" of rain yesterday. It came down slow and soft, and get this--the day before was really warm so I went out and mulched all the beds that weren't already mulched. I had been to a day long seminar on building Rain Gardens, and someone mentioned that rain was in our forecast, so I washed my car on the way home. That always cinches the deal. We did lose power for about 6 hours when lightning struck the local substation. Kinda strange getting lightning and thunder without extreme wind. Strange for Kansas, anyway.
Getting rain sure beats having to drag all the hoses out of storage. What a break for us.
We have had no snow, and the December 20 rain was the only one we have had since early fall.
The warm winter has given me lots of opportunities to pull out all the trees and shrubs that died in the summer heat and drought. I'm really looking forward to getting my orders from Palatine and Austin.
Maybe, just maybe I'll get to go back to California in April (for the iris nationals) and we'll tour really nice rose gardens! And do some rose shopping....and iris shopping, of course.
