Although sometimes made me scare, this snake (Rhabdophis chrysargos) is actually harmless, so I never bother with it. slithering on backyard wall between self sown Salvias

Pretty snake, Tofi. I guess it's important to know which ones to avoid!

Here's a not great phone pic of a small fox that visited the garden (in France) last night. It was really tame, ate from my hand and even followed me into the house. I wondered whether someone had hand-reared it, or if the very unusual weather (quite heavy snow, pretty much unheard of here) was the cause of its unexpected behaviour.

The young fox has returned - quite cute, I think? Still seems way too tame to be a fox!

Thanks, Christine, Dirt. Big Grin
Yup, I've become really fond of the adolescent fox; no idea whether male or female (I took the view that if I were a fox I wouldn't appreciate some human rummaging around in my nether regions...) And no, not yet on my lap!
He/she appeared again this evening - but now that the snow has more or less melted I'm hoping that he/she will return home...

I would think that fox has lived with humans, either as a pet (never a good idea) or in some type of rescue shelter. I don't know much about wild animals other than my mother called us that when we were kids. Ok. Not exactly true. I know a little bit about wolves and coyotes.

Well, now I'm curious and have another tab opened where I'm reading about foxes. One site says they're friendly until adolescence or just after. Another site, dated 2012, says and I quote, 'FOXES have been spotted in the centre of Paris – even in the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Place de la République.' Fox coats anyone?

Most everything I've read has referred to the fox as 'opportunistic' in terms of its dining experience. Per the National Geographic, 'Foxes will eat fruit and vegetables, fish, frogs, and even worms. If living among humans, foxes will opportunistically dine on garbage and pet food.'

So I'll leave it there and say no more other than my first sentence might not be true.

Back to the bees. I was at a localnusery today and there were bees buzzing all over the blooms. Most were in the 'discovery garden' where vegetables and some fruit are grown for visitors to have a look see. Several times I tried to take pictures but the bees were either too little, too fast or they were too busy. It's just nice to know that they're around.

And now that I just won a super duper pair of binoculars, I might be able to see what critters visit my garden. Won't help me with pictures, but it will help me know if I need more diversity in my garden. Yay! I can see!

@tx_flower_child yes to the foxes in urban locations, scouting about overnight/early hours looking for easy food sources. They were seen here walking the footpath one summers evening --- heard a local dog barking, looked out and there was a fox meandering along the footpath! Also have seen (some years back now) a fox sitting on neighbours front lawn when it was time to get up. Must've been a bit late getting home further down the road where there was a lot of bushland. Slowly but surely a big percentage of bushland is sacrificed to new housing developments (as happens). However there is some green-corridors retained. I can't help but think though of the displaced wildlife each time this happens.
If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.

Oh, it's happening here, too. I haven't seen them but a lot of people in my 'hood and nearby ones keep reporting on seeing coyotes.

A neighbor across the street was trying to help another neighbor rescue some stray/feral little escape artist kittens. He put out a trap and the next morning found a possum in it. He said the possum was spitting mad.

We're in an older 'hood so it's all expected (unless you just bought a cute house with Daddy's money and didn't realize that critters exist.) For me, what's worse is the expansion of the 'burbs. Big cities vie to get big businesses to move to the area. When they do, the developers have a hay day creating new 'communities'. And the people that buy the brand spanking new houses are really shocked when they see wildlife. Very sad. And too bad! (oh, just slap me.)

I love the young fox. How nice of that teenager to mind its manners and come in well behaved. Keep us posted on visits. Smiling I paid a nice welt for taking pictures of the Lemon Tree Blossom visitors. Brought one in the house not knowing it hitched a ride.
