I was just outside checking my heuchs. It seems a lot of them are heaving this year. I don't remember the heaving to be this bad in previous years - one of my poor babies was all the way out of the ground and I had to plant him again.

Please go out and check your heuchs are not heaving out of the ground!

I try to check every week if I can. Without the snow cover the ground goes from frozen at nights to mud a few times a week.

You know Bob, I am not sure our ground has been frozen yet.... Not that I am complaining, mind you.

Haven't checked my heucheras yet, but my sempervivums are heaving really bad this year. Have to go check my heucheras today.

What makes the heucheras heave?

it is the freezing and thawing of the ground in the winter. I had to replant a couple of mine because they had heaved right out of the ground.

I think you're right about the lack of snow. I think I'm going to start mulching mine in December from now on.
