I have been making these tags for quite a few years now. In fact, I noticed one on a fruit tree, dating back to 2002. One thing missing from the picture is that you can get some thin strips of wood, like from a cedar shingle, split about 1/2 in wide, and drill a small hole in the top end, then entwine the tag through that hole, and place in the earth in front of a plant that cannot easily be "tagged". An old ball point pen allows one to easily press down on the tag, and impress: Plant, colour, year, etc. Cheers!
