Now that I have 'Holly Jolly', thought I'd share some close-up photos to show it's color on a hen and 2 chicks, looking great so far! This is about 1 week after potted up from mail-order Youngs shipment.

Very nice Mark. We are so fortunate in this country to have access to such great and healthy plants. Hurray!

I think it's an age thing, where slogans and jingles get stuck in my head via random association, every time I look at Sempervivum 'Holly Jolly' I start singing (in my head) Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives, been singing it all morning since schlepping my 8 trays of semps back out to the deck.

Kevin, I'm assuming the name you've given this plant was inspired by Christmas, if not that exact song. Smiling

Mark,

Yes Holly Jolly is one of the more unusually patterned Killer seedlings and it did SCREAM XMAS because of the red and green coloration. It's not as big as some of the others from those groups.

Oddly enough I haven't used it much in crosses. I was concentrating on the bigger siblings. (much to Bev's chagrin!)

Thanks Kevin. It's interesting having all these new semp arrivals, about 100 cultivars snugged in close together in 8 trays, fascinating to observe color change and rosette disposition change in a mere 2 weeks, some already some stand out, my eye goes instantly to Holly Jolly, I like the mottled coloration.

Update on color of Holly Jolly, on the hen, the center has become very dark, near black. Color has deepened on the chicks too, but not yet as boldly as on the hen.

JungleShadows said:Hi!

Was surprised to see this one listed! It was a seedling that I was debating and sent it to Toby to see what he thought. It has very interesting watermarks. It's from Killer X Jungle Shadows.

I have even more outrageous ones in the next generation, especially in a group from Heart of Darkness X Borscht. You see why I like that line!

Kevin

@jungleshaddows How did that next generation turn out? Your hybrids are so awesome!

Nathaniel,

I'm in the third generation of that line now and lots of fun things are coming, many blacks, grays, and strong red/ green and black/ green bicolors. Was just admiring them this afternoon. FUN STUFF. Always a difficult decision to pick out the ones to name.
