Thanks, Karen. The shade is what I'll have to figure out how to provide. I am going to sow some "heat tolerant" lettuces in a while but don't want them to perish in their jugs.

Aaaaand... Today I "winter sowed" three jugs of heat tolerant lettuce. Probably should have started them sooner. But I hope I can have lettuce later in the year.... There are three varieties, all from Johnny's Select Seeds. I trust their testing etc.

We'll see how this goes. Jugs in the shade under my new potting table.

This is mostly "extra" and with maybe one or two exceptions, all winter sown. I love being able to have this abundance.

Thumb of 2015-04-22/kylaluaz/f3bd46

The daylilies on the lower level are not extra but just haven't been potted up yet. Some of them WILL be extras, probably, come to think of it.

The one tray on the far right of that shelf is all designated to give away here locally. And I am being stingy so far. Want to wait to see if I need any back ups, like for the cucumbers for instance.

Not one sprout for me as of yet... zero, zip, nada! I hope -- and think -- that it's just because it's still too cold. Trying very hard to be patient!! Sticking tongue out

I moved the jugs to a more or less sunny area (they were in the shade during the winter) hoping that would get things going a little quicker...

My shade containers are always last. limited to spots I wants to keep them in and of course one of them is shade. Bright side they don't dry out as fast as the others Whistling

Well, heck, Sandy. Dang.

Do you have slugs? Or is it too cold? I found some small ones doing big damage in some of my jugs and I suspect that's why a few never germinated that Icould see; I think slugs ate the teeny babies before I could notice them! Grumbling

LOL, Kyla -- we definitely have slugs here, but I'm fairly certain none were active when I put the jugs outside (I didn't plant them until February...) The only other year that I have to compare to is 2012, when I WS'd some things and definitely had poppies and some other stuff sprouting by now; but that was an extremely unusually warm spring, and this year definitely is not. Temps are still going down below freezing at night, and even in the daytime it's struggling to get into the 50s, although we did have a short stretch of slightly warmer weather that must have just been teasing me Glare I doubt that every single thing that I planted will sprout, but I'm reasonably confident that some things will!

Ronnie, I think we're so grateful once the nice weather gets here each year that we manage to block the previous winter out of our minds... Rolling my eyes.

Snowed today, freeze warning in effect for tonight...and all of this follows a three week spell where air conditioning might have been used! Not here at our house, but the dentist's office had theirs on last week. Lilies are up and will be frost-blackened again this year, but that's really nothing new. Sticking tongue out At least I'm not shuffling tender seedlings around this year. I haven't even started most of them yet.

I'm not at all worried about my winter sowing containers...they're covered and should be just fine. Smiling

Plenty of freeze damage already showing in the gardens from last night's cold, and it's supposed to be even worse tonight. Winter sowing containers are fine though, so I think I'll stay out of the gardens for the time being and sow some more.

Crying Come ON, Spring!

It's cooled off some here but I think it's only going to be a good thing cause lettuce seeds and cause planting is more comfortable. Nights getting maybe as low as 40 but I think it's not a problem.

Fingers crossed, though!
