They worked on rudimentary roads yesterday, we now have culverts and raised gravel roads linking all 3 areas of our land across 2 creeks. Only 1 creek is always running, the 2nd is just during rainy season. Water and electric hookups happened Friday, inspections Monday then hopefully drywall done by the end of the week! They whole place is less than 400 square feet so it shouldn't take long! The concrete floor will be stained and polished the following week, hoping it'll be really low maintenance....

Progress from last week. 1st pic shows the 2nd "bridge"—at least path over culverts so we can drive across. There are actually 4 huge culverts installed in that part because it was eaten away so deep and wide, 2 end to end and side by side. Eventually there will be a greenhouse installed pretty much where the dirt path ends and hopefully a barn to the north, definitely an orchard and gardens out there as well. 2nd pic will eventually be a kitchenette and the opening to the left will be a 3/4 bath, everything except a bathtub as I thought a walk-in shower would be most efficient for us for the longest period, it'll only have a small track for a shower door to negotiate. If I have my way there will be a lean-to type greenhouse installed just to the right of that big window, should be just enough room to install a 6' one between the matching window just outside the pic. Already have a water spigot installed on both sides of the cottage and an electric outlet outside where the greenhouse will sit.
This week they should get the drywall finished up and painted and floors stained. They're also sowing clover over most of the area for us as well toward the end of the week. Should be finished with the heavy equipment clearing the area for the immediate future! That just leaves installing cabinets, shower tiling, installing the toilet and lighting and then waiting for the all clear to travel so that we can see it in person!

Wow - hello everyone! I have been missing in action from ATP for almost 3 yrs - life just got in the way, but I decided to try to find my original posts about Peonies and needing help with them (which I found with no problem and reviewed) and then went off to the forum and found this post! Back in my original post back in 2017, Liz had talked about relocating her gardens to Alabama, and I am excited to find this post and see all the wonderful progress and the beautiful location of her new home!

I still don't have all my peonies blooming or budding (I was having trouble with foliage only) but I had several blooms last year and looks like I should have a LOT more this year! I have been using the bulbtone faithfully in the early spring when they first start showing, but I usually fail to get more out in the fall. I was actually trying to refresh my memory on whether I was supposed to put it out more than those two times per year!! But, my daughter has a few peonies that we have had in pots for the past 3 yrs for her, and she had her first bloom of the season open yesterday. We had originally put them in big pots because we weren't sure if she would be staying in that home after graduation from Pharmacy school (which was supposed to be next month but has been cancelled), but thankfully she has a job offer, so she actually planted some additional peonies just a couple of weeks ago in the ground.

Liz, I love how you just put the peonies in the ground and left them and they performed so well!! Your thumb must be solid green! Smiling Hope to stick around more often now that I have finally found my way back to the forum!

I now have kitchen cabinets! Also a bathroom vanity, same look. Only issue was that a small drawer base was broken in transit, will be 2 weeks before it comes in. That's the piece sitting in the foreground. Appliances are backordered until mid May but everything else should be done in the next week or 2!

Spent the day digging up daylilies and irises out of the garden that is mostly on the lot for sale now. Ran out of bags to put them in so won't be able to finish until next week when I get more. Hoping I can just remove the edging and drip lines, rake it more level and be done after that.

They have made excellent progress Liz!

All your efforts in digging up your plants is so worth it! I used grocery bags, when I ran out of the garden bags, until my new order arrived!

It's going to be wonderful when you see your plants growing and blooming in your new garden!

I'm thankful that I took plants with me. The people that bought our last home have no clue about gardening!

Over the 14 years that we lived there, I had planted thousands of spring blooming bulbs, and they thought the emerging leaves from the bulbs were weeds! I'm so glad that I took a few of those as well!

Seeing your garden transition was an inspiration to me, Annette! And seeing your new garden mature will be even more of a confirmation that the effort is worth while—it's going to be even bigger and better than your old garden.
I'm sorry that the new owners of your previous home aren't gardeners. I've heard so many horror stories of gardens being cut down that I'm reducing the overall number of beds here as well as dividing and moving plants. I'll leave as low maintenance as possible plantings close to the house and remove everything else before we put this house up for sale next spring. I'll still have a couple of weeks of mostly time off until we start returning to normal at work, plan to do as much work as possible on those beds now so I can devote time to creating new beds in AL as soon as travel restrictions are lifted.

Thanks for your kind comments Liz!

My husband visited our previous home to pick up some of our mail, that was inadvertently sent there. He let the new homeowners know that the emerging bulbs weren't weeds.

We also have horror stories from 2004, when we sold our first home. It sold it < 24 hours, partially because of how well it was landscaped. We still had friends that lived there, and when we went for a visit, our former garden had been decimated! I didn't have a chance to take any plants or bulbs from that garden.

I'm so glad you'll continue to save your plants, and take them AL! It's wonderful that you're able to get so many planted already!

You and your family continue to stay safe!
