According to the Wiki Iris Encyclopedia, an amoena is an iris with white standards and colored falls. So does anyone have any to show? Here are a whole bunch of my favorites:

Betty, you need to become a professional photographer, if you aren't already! Such beautiful pictures. I have to agree many that you have posted are ones I like a lot especially Expose, I love that one, having trouble keeping it going here though. Here's a couple more that I like.

All I can say is WOW to both posts.

I also am having a hard time with Expose here. It bloomed wonderfully the next year after I got it, then nothing last year. Of course it is planted in clay soil. So then I got another one from I think Paul Black. That year they sent very small rhizomes, planted them in my raised bed, then nothing. I think maybe they are still there but very small. Maybe I will try it again from someone else and plant it in my raised bed. Those small ones just didn't do anything.

Kinda the same story with Starship Enterprise. Although I did get a large fan to begin with and it bloomed the next year, I don't think it did anything last year, 2011. Schreiners don't usually do well for me anyway, too hot and dry here, with short winters.

I will post what I have of this type.

OMG everyone, I can't wipe the slobbers off my screen. I have been buying more and more amoenas as I can find space, they are just getting more and more pretty from the hybridizers now. Thanks so much everyone for posting these beauties, I can't seem to pick a FAVORITE. Ooops caps, but it works LOL.

Betty, what a gorgeous clump shot of Whispering Falls. Can you trade me a start of that and Quandry for something?

Kent, Those are some amazing photos. I have to get Publicity Stunt! I see they have it at Mid-America. Also love Big Blue Eyes. I never would have ordered it based on Schriners picture, but you're is so much better. My wish list just keeps growing, Darn, I'm going to have to cull out some to make room for the new list. I CAN'T MAKE ANOTHER BED! I have to keep repeating that to myself, lol.

I can't remember the name of the sibling to 'Starship enterprise. It is less spectacular, but a better grower.

Meanwhile for people who are able to grow SDBs--Here is 'Reddy Set' (L.Burton '08).

That's a wonderful SDB, Lucy! Congratulations!

I think the sib to STARSHIP ENTERPRISE is LIGHTSHINE. Here's a picture I took at Snowpeak back in 2009.

Dot. unfortunately I don't have WHISPERING FALLS and was ready to order it this year from Schreiner's, but suddenly it disappeared from their website. Hopefully they will add it back later, because right now they don't have much at all in their listing compared to other years. And I'll have to check on my QUANDARY to see if it's grown any.

Thats ok Betty, thanks anyway. I am now guessing you took that gorgeous clump shot at Schreiners LOL. I just ordered from 2 places, one being Napa Iris and the other an online place that had "Niche" that I saw on the other thread and wanted. I ordered a bunch of amoenas, thanks to everyone's posts LOL.

The picture of Merry Amigo was taken at Keith Keppel's garden last spring. It was also blooming at Mid-America when we were there. From what I could tell, it appeared to be a good grower.
