All of a sudden today when I am trying to read the threads, these ads are going up and down right across the reading area instead of the far right like they used to. Very annoying when you can't read the threat. What gives???

Last night I was playing around with the ad formatting on the site. I have now hopefully fixed the issue - is it better now?

Dave, now the ads are covering the photos in some cases:

It depends on how wide your monitor is. I'm going to look a bit further into this.

I have a small monitor. The ad doesn't cover any part of the photo on my monitor. In fact, the ad's not visible unless I shift to the right.

Well, actually, I programmed it so that if your browser is less than 1000px wide, then don't move the ad. So, there is an unfortunate spot after 1000 but before about 1280 where you will get this bad effect.

I can see the problem on my laptop. I will be able to fix this, I just need to contemplate how to do it. It's a balancing act to make it look right in every configuration. Just need to do some math.

Happens for me too Ann if I have my screen extra wide. And the weird part is that the ads don't jump over into the image till about half way down and if you move your hand away it keeps on scrolling down anyway.

Very weird. But only if I have my screen to its fullest width.

Exactly Sharon.

I have no idea what width my screen is set to. Someone would have to tell me where I would find that info.

Just to make things more wierd, in IE7, I think it was yesterday, I set "text size" to "largest", briefly, in another website altogether. Then I changed back to "larger".

Soon I noticed that one particular right-edge ad, for coffee in K-Cups, was blocking my "larger" text in formums, while reading posts. Scrolling did not move the text away from the ad, I really could not read it.

Changing the text size down to (unreadably small) "medium" cured that. (I'm running both monitors at 1280x1024 at work. If relevant, my "Windows font size" is "extra large" and indeed, I squint if I don't have LARGE PRINT.)

Now for the wierdness: changing BACK from medium to "larger" popped that ad right back where it belonged, away from the forum text!

Almost as if the prior text size affected ad placement! Does IE7 have a memory for what the prefered text size "used to be"?

OK, it IS IE7, and I may have been not-logged-out from ATP when I did the "larger-largest-larger" dance. And I probably did not 'refresh' at any point.

But the usefull point is that, if you see ads where you don;t want them, try using a smaller text size BRIEFLY. See if that does anything. Or "refresh"

P.S. I appreciate that ads permit Dave to run this site! And the gardening related ads are even interesting sometimes. On this site at least, 'hurray for ads'.

But I'm going to try to figure out what website made me a target for unceasing K-Cup coffee ads everywhere I go! The only place they haven't invaded yet are my dreams.

Oh, well. The pop-up ad developers heard me : in the Permaculture forumn, the K-cup-coffe add is back to covering part of the text when I use "larger" text size.
And now going to "medium" and back to "larger" doesn't help on the "Permaculture" forum even thoguh I tired 'refresh' every now and then.

... but the ad is well-bahved in THIS forumn!

I can't explain it. But I may be using an unusually large effective font size: in this "reply" box, for example, a line is 86 characters wide with the IE7 "larger" text size.

If I go to "medium" it is 128 chars wide. If it is working well for most people with modern browsers, don't worry unduly about my combination.

I, too, had an add that was covering up what I was able to read on a thread and I've not changed my text since ATP came into being. I actually clicked on the add, hoping to make it go away and it was just information about google. It only lasted for about an hour. This was a few days ago.

I see ads covering part of the banner. This has happened sporadically (again) for the last couple of days. I'm using FF, and my text size, and page size hasn't been changed.
