I have three but I don't think one of them is going to make it. I potted them up and moved them to the GH where nighttime temps get down to 40, but that should actually be good for them. I have been tossing around the idea of starting a few more but I just haven't gotten to it and of course, the longer I wait, the more it won't be feasible. You have a lot of artichokes! They take up quite a bit of space too.

I tried growing artichokes a few years back -- probably didn't start them early enough to begin with, all I got was HUGE, quite impressive leaves... Actually I've never even eaten an artichoke so I'm not sure why I want to grow them, other than they probably shouldn't be grown here Whistling

There's nothing like a fresh articoke steamed and dipped in lemon butter. The new plants need to go through a chilling period before they will produce a bloom. They normally produce the second year, but you have to trick them into thinking they have gone through a winter by chilling them for about 250 hours of so.

My artichokes are doing pretty well. I'm glad we are having some nice sun shine and warmer weather so I can take them outside for a while each day lately.

They are already the size that the last ones I grew were in May. Last time I grew them I was much later getting them started.

They seem to look a lot like the ones in the data base, but your second one looks different then your first one to me.

I dunno, TK -- I tried growing artichokes one time (not exactly suited to where I live, but Shrug! ) and the leaves were big spiny things, nothing like what your photo shows... Confused

Hurray!

So -- how are you going to prepare it, TK? (I don't think I've ever actually eaten one in any form...)

I have only eaten them boiled, and served with mayo. But, im willing to try them another way if someone has a suggestion. This one is only about as big as a $.25 gumball, and i dont know how big it will grow,

Yay TK! I always steam my artichokes, and serve as a dipping sauce a basic white sauce with some herbs/parmesan cheese.

It's it exciting to see that first one?

They are good steamed, or boiled. Sometimes I add a couple whole cloves to the water, and/or some lemon wedges. I like to dip mine in melted garlic butter or Lemon butter.
