Indeed. It was probably hard to see my tongue in my cheek as I was butchering Latin over the Internet. Smiling

I knew what you were saying Asa. I just love those wing bars red & yellow. So striking!

Aren't you just the lucky one Kurt! Hurray! Hurray! for the bunting!

The strangest thing this year..... usually we have flocks & flocks & flocks of goldfinches wintering here. I mean you can't turn around without bumping into a goldfinch but this year we only have a scant handful and I don't even see those few every day. It's so weird.

I am finally starting to appreciate robins. I couldn't stand them in south FL b/c they spread the terribly invasive Brazilian pepper but up here, they are just winter visitors who eat the bugs.

This is a new photo of the same owls I posted a while ago. They live under the roof of my brother's house. I took this picture with a flash because it was dark there.

Is there an even more common owl name for these? I used to have a field guide that I left with my mother when I moved out some 25+ years ago and she had some water damage. Bye bye books. I'll just have to buy another. I did a college thesis on barn owls but am not familiar with these. Have never seen them.

On 10 March as I was watching the trout stocking at the Robin Hood Bridge, three Mallards (a hen and two drakes) shattered the up to then peaceful scene, engaging with a rather nasty squabble. I could only get one reasonable image of the fray: Thumb of 2018-04-17/marsrover/3cf5ef
At the end of the nastiness, the hen and one of the drakes flew off together:

Tracy, the other comon name I found in internet is The tropical screech owl . But it can only be found in Central and South America. I don't think you can find one of them in the United States.

Thank you Ceci!!

No wonder I never had seen them before.

Lol. Actually my name is Mindi, but the city I live in is Tracy 😀. That's confusing since they are both girl names.

Thank you for looking up the 🦉 owl common name!!

Good luck if you are playing in the raffle!!
