I have a blue muck bucket that I used for debris. I love that lime green color! But I know my muck bucket will never, well...kick the bucket. Rolling on the floor laughing

Hey, if there are Spartan people who joined the site to shill for the product...
And it actually does work...
And you're truly a reputable company...

Get in touch with @dave (use the treemail) and buy some advertising space. It costs a bundle to run this place (traffic and all the rest) and if you (the Spartan folks) are getting value from it, return a little to the place.

I get the stealth marketing notion...but step up and help pay the bills if you're getting help paying yours.

In all fairness to the new members on this forum, if you Google "Spartan Mosquito Eradicator" to find out more information and wanted to hear what people are saying about them, I would click 7-10 hits down on the Texas Gardening Forum where they are talking about it. nodding Voila! You find us here just like that!

I had done exactly that Google search and missed it! I see it now on another try. At least I've learned a lesson on naming a product in the subject line. How does Google find it, I wonder? If it works, perhaps they could offer a couple via the Not a Raffle raffle as a prize.

I climbed a ladder and placed the cylinder where I hope the squirrels won't bother it. I was outside all day and never saw a mosquito, so I can't vouch for the product's effectiveness. Looking forward to finding little black spots all over the patio in the morning!

(BTW/off topic...we have security cams around the yard/house, and soon the novelty of checking the overnight stuff wore off. This morning I happened to check one of the front yard cameras. At around midnight we had a fox stroll across the front yard, followed by a skunk a few minutes later. Then the armadillo wandered by around 2 am.
At around 4, the deer showed up. I watched three deer mow the flowers off asst. plants on both side of the yard. This evening I mixed Dawn with water and used a sprayer to cover all the plants that are left. I'll probably forget to wash it off tomorrow and the sun will fry what's left of my flowers).

Well, I copied the video because I didn't think anyone would believe it. I think of all the times I used to go out before dawn to get the morning paper.

Oh, good. I'm glad you were able to save it. And your timing is perfect. When I'm doing my night owl trip I'm usually listening to the BBC. So I just heard that Bugs Bunny, Wiley Coyote & the Road Runner. etc. are going to be making a come back. Heard they'll bring back Rocky & Bullwinkle but not with all of the usual characters. These will be new episodes. Better copyright your video.

Just did a walk around the backyard and there's no little mosquito bodies on the ground. Maybe I need to lower the cylinder closer to the shrubs. It's at the recommended 6 ft. now.

I decided to lower the mosquito trap. Before I moved it, I peeked inside and found many teeny, dead, floating ants..... Angry

It has been about 6 weeks and very few mosquitoes. I have seen a few but not too many. Have 4 around approx Quarter acre lot.

Looking at the ingredients it says active ingredient salt approx 11% and inert ingredients of sugar and yeast in smaller amounts. I think what happens is the sugar yeast and water ferment which produces CO2 and attracts them. They get in there and feed on the sugar water and the salt in the water kills them or disrupts their breeding. Reading a post on their site if the salt concentration is too high they won't feed on it. Some people with salt water softeners apparently have been having issues.

I'm half tempted to take the tubes after 90 days and mix up salt water to the specified concentration and add the percentages of sugar and yeast and see if it works.

Yep, my thoughts exactly! I think it would be easy to mix the ingredients and see what happens. Thumbs up
So far, all I see in the tube is dead ants floating.... However, I haven't seen many mosquitos. 'Wishful thinking? Maybe. 'Possibly the dry 98 to 101 degree weather is keeping them laying low.

I have a spider floating in one of mine and 4 mosquito bites. But it's early in the game.

Greetings! Piping up to introduce myself. I Googled for Spartan Mosquito reviews and that's how I found this thread. Hurray!

I have nothing to do with Spartan, but I did order two *because* of the helpful information here. I found them on Amazon, but Spartan fulfills the order. I ordered it at 10 this morning, and I got the tracking number in less than an hour.

I'll certainly provide feedback once USPS delivers and I get the tubes up.

ShadyGreenThumb, is it too soon to ask how effective they are?

I live in a heavily treed area of Dallas, right by a creek and close to White Rock Lake and we're absolutely blanketed with the little suckers already. I am putting them both up, one each on opposing corners of our lot.

I am so tired of spraying down with DEET and smelling/feeling like sticky stinky mosquito repellent and all the showering/water use. We've tried lots of different sprays and yard treatments and zapping/off-gassing gadgets over the years. So many options are bad for the bees; one great thing about the Spartan is that it is both pet and 🐝-friendly.

Thank you all for your posted thoughts. I'm cautiously optimistic that these will work. Fingers crossed.

Well, maybe a bit too soon, @younggreenanne as it says it takes 14 days to a month to take affect. I was just out there, in the forest and got no bites. The trap is empty though. IDK if they are actually supposed to "catch" them or what?? But it's hot out and mosquitoes are smart so...I will keep up with this thread and report back as I hope you and others will, too. We are expecting a little rain this weekend. A good test, I think? Welcome!

I may need to go back re-read things. I never really understood they were trapped physically. I thought they were attracted to the CO2 and indulged in the drink and then went off and exploded :). One of the reasons it works is because it interrupts the reproduction cycle. A female that is engorging on blood lays eggs by the gazillions; but those that engorge on a saline yeast solution blow up. I thought that was one of the ways it is supposed to work and one of the reasons that it takes a while to really see the results.

I don't know how far mosquitoes travel, but a lot of insects are weirdly restricted in the square footage of area that they actually traverse. Heel flies can be virtually eliminated by double fencing a property line (I forget the space needed between the two fences, but it's feet - not yards) and then eradicating them inside the boundaries. If your neighbor is infested with them, the barrier is enough so you won't have them. Until you open a gate and a loaded animal comes through and starts everything up again. Also, there are a lot of different species of mosquitoes and they don't all have the same habits. If they restricted in the way they travel and reproduction in that area is interrupted or greatly reduced, then you see the benefit.

On that thinking the benefit would be they are biting the tubes instead of you. That would be very minor in the scheme of things. But if the reproduction is interrupted, it could be pretty major. Common sense would seem to say it will never be a complete elimination. Even if they aren't given to traveling themselves, they still attach and ride along on just about any animal that moves. That would be enough to re-establish a mosquito population because they do reproduce so rapidly. The tubes would need to be kept supplied even if they apparently worked in order to keep the re-establishment from taking place.

That was how my mind was working when I was reading all the sites when I first made the initial post. I should maybe see if I can find out the movement of mosquitoes if I can find it. That's a lot of trouble and probably won't get done by me. I have two weeks to do things and after that I'm going to be reduced to only my left arm for six weeks. I might as well be tied up in a strait jacket. I'm extremely orientated to my right side. It's very dominant. I've been trying to practice brushing my teeth with my left hand in preparation and it's not going well Rolling my eyes. .

I'm confused too about trapping or eating then dying, but I am going to take them in if it really looks like heavy rain. It does clearly say that f they get too much water inside that they won't work anymore.
