I put some peppers in yesterday and putting lots more in today. The soil is nice and warm from that heat spell we had over the weekend.

My tomatoes are almost done here in Central Florida. I grew Better Boy, Brandywine and a volunteer that I think was Celebrity. I was so impressed with the Brandywine that I will grow it again this winter.

I am brand new to this website/organization/forum and definitely love it. I typically plant around 60 tomato plants with about 20 different varieties, keeping the best each year. I was surprised that noone mentioned my absolute favorite. Pink Girl. Big Beef and Wild Boar Solar Flare are also some of my top picks. This year, I am also trying Stump of the World. Someone from Kentucky gave me the seeds.

Welcome Karrie ......always happy for another voice. I like Big Beef but do not raise my own from seed and so I am at the mercy of what the the local nurseries and Home Depot have, Having said that there seems to be a larger selection every year and I have 20 different cultivars that I am trying this year. My Son and my Daughter think that I'm obsessive. That is true and if I had more room I would look for more to try. They will need to make lots of Salsa this year and I'm certain friends and neighbors will be happy to try some.....

Went to a local plant seller a couple of weeks ago and they were having a large tomato contest, so I added Big Zac to the garden. While we were there I saw a plant I just had to have...only thing is it did not have a tag on it. I was positive I could remember ONE variety. Nope, it will be planted as "mystery variety". Edit: Upon planting there was a tag in the soil...Nebraska Wedding...I remember now.

I Googled it because of the interesting name. Sounds like you made a good choice-I hope you'll post a review as to flavor. It's a beauty!

She outlived her tormentors and lived a full life. She had a daughter hatched by a surregrate bantam hen and was queen of the roost for several years and died of old age.

Tomatoes are all doing well, doubled in size - Dinner Plate even has flower buds (not that I expect these early ones to actually set).
My co-workers snapped up all my spare tomato and eggplant plants. I have a Big Mama and a Celebrity in reserve just in case something happened to my other ones, I will probably give them away next week.
Peppers are still sitting out waiting to be transplanted. It got cool and wet, so I'm going to let it warm up a bit again. But I have Carmen and Takii Ace plants with flowers.

Wow, my pepper plants are still really small although most of them are already planted. But no where near setting flowers.

I looked up Takii Ace and it sounds like a great bell to grow.

It is fun to hear how we garden around the country. I start my pepper seedlings late as they really seem to produce better in late summer for me. I probably won't put them in ground for another two weeks to a month.

But this tomato is really stepping up to the plate early... loaded with all sizes of tomatoes and it won't be long before I can start grazing on them. Green Grin!

And it will be the first tomato to deliver for the season. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Yum, almost time for ripe tomatoes.

Peppers really seem to produce well in the Fall so I guess it's not as urgent to get them going quickly in the spring. I know my peppers are still small but they are growing well now that I have planted them out.

Yesterday it was so hot and humid, well over 90 and the poor tomatoes looked sorry but overnight and this morning lots of rain so they are happy.

I think I did good bringing back many old favorites this year after a few years of not being in the garden.

Pretty much all the tomatoes look good but those "old favorite" Early Girls, Romas and Big Boys are the first with blooms this season.

Just like old friends, aren't they!

How long does it take tomatoes to ripen. I am getting impatient. Grumbling

Those first ones to ripen take forever.

Yup, the old favorites really are old friends. I really never thought about that way before but it is so true.

That is the way things seem to go in my veggie garden. Sometimes varieties (especially of tomatoes) are not planted for a few years and then they return.
