I hope you enter this one in the photo contest. I would vote for it.
Then I looked at last year's photo, which was pretty and got 30 thumbs up, and realized how much more you got out of your subject this year! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
Would that be a "silk purse from a sow's ear"?

Thank you, Diana. Smiling Other than the top flower being slightly out of focus, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It is a bit of a mystery to me why some photos bring on the clicks and others don't, but I aim to please and I enjoy connecting with other people here.

I have been watching and waiting for these flowers, which take a while to open. This is actually a different plant from the Cotyledon flower picture I took last year, though you wouldn't necessarily know it from the flowers alone.

The leaves are a different shape (like 1/5 the width). Each of the variants of this species seems to flower at a different time of year (consistently), which is another difference. A plus, in my opinion. Smiling For me and the hummingbirds.

Thank you. Hilarious! The pig's ear name works better for some varieties of this plant than others... like this one maybe.

Those leaves are sort of piggy, I guess. The leaves on the one in the original flower picture remind me more of fingers (and not pig fingers) than any sort of ear. They have a curved red edge right where the fingernail would be, to enhance the look.
