Trichosanthes kirilowii - one of the most amazing flowers I have ever seen! It's a night blooming vine and jaw dropping to watch opening. It has 'tentacles' that wave around when it starts to open. It's a solid zone 8 hardy plant - dies back and comes back bigger and better each year. Years ago I made a video of the flower opening .. it's not very good quality but I was at the mercy of my technology. I have better technology now and plan to make another video. Here's the link if you wish to see it:
I have to wonder what kinds of evolutionary pressures made this flower.

Can't reseed unless you have male and female plants. The vines themselves will run across the ground but they are easy to catch and redirect.

Beautiful, I watched the video and it is amazing the opening of the bloom. Did you get this as a starter plant or from seeds? If from seeds would you care to share from where. Thanks for showing this.

Hi James, I grew these from seeds .. send me a tree mail with your address and I'll put some in the mail to you.
