New month, new thread. We are getting wind driven rain for a bit today after thunder and lightening last night and then it is supposed to calm down and warm up - 50F tomorrow, in early March! The guys who make maple syrup aren't going to have a very long season by the looks. We used to help friends sugar, and it can be a lot of fun or a long stretch of cold wet weather that really wears you out. I enjoyed it at the time, but can't say as I really miss it.

Here March is oozing in like a sea slug. It is in the high 70s, overcast, humid and still. I'm glad that we're having an early spring, but I am solar powered and there is a lot to be done here, so a little sunshine would be energizing.

Here are the slops I put on the walls when I was considering colors. The green is the present color. The linoleum is a distressed wood.

And the wall behind the stove and fridge will be black.

The other walls will be the orange sherbet color. the off white was too white. And all the other downstairs rooms are a white. Don't want to look TOO sterile. Green Grin!

I don't know why I can't seem to upload more than 1 pic. per post. Oh, well...........

lol, when we painted the upstairs here, my eldest came down looking rather stunned and said, ' What happened? It looks like a crayon box exploded!' We had been pretty much antique white through all of her growing up years in the trailer. The downstairs is antique white even now, or wallpaper, both of which have white backgrounds.

Will the black wall make the kitchen dark?

Porkpal, I was thinking about your last post on the Feb thread. I can't imagine trying to plan for a year that looks like another drought. Let's hope they are wrong.

Kathleen, I *think* I will be able to pull it off because besides having a window on each of the east and west walls (the black one is on the north) I have a full-glass entry door on the east. without having the full-glass door, I probably couldn't have managed it without the wall strangling people that would come in. Green Grin! And the orange-y other walls will help. 2 of those. There is no wall on the south, goes right into the "non-room" (room with no purpose other than connecting, tho that is where the computer and my piano are). The west wall is cupboards and sink. I'll take a pic of it later when the fridge, stove, and cabinet are back and the pans are hung back up on the wall rack.

I like the orange color - I'm still waiting to see how you carry off the black. When I was a child a neighbor had an entire kitchen painted black. The whole family was very thin - apparently no one could stand to stay in the kitchen long enough to prepare meals.

When I left home, my youngest brother got my room. It was a nice sandy beige which he promptly painted black with John Deere yellow woodwork. I guess he didn't want me to come back and reclaim my room! I think it took mom 4 coats of paint to cover it when he left home.

I think I would be hard put to spend any time in an all black kitchen, but Anna's soft orange may be the ticket, along with the windows.

It's just the one wall, and you don't see the whole thing either. Gah.........gotta go and tape along the ceiling and touch up some. SU brought me a brush........he told me I didn't need to buy one since he did some painting last fall. Jeez, the one I probably needed (smallish one) was probably the one he said was all hard. Have I mentione here that I HATE to paint. I rate it right up there along with weaning pigs and chopping corn silage................

The only way I can get a sharp line at the ceiling is with a paint pad - and it's much quicker than taping.

I used a paint pad, but was hard to get a decent line, so I taped it and went along with a brush. It is much better. Have the appliances moved back. Gads, it is sure dark. LOL I think I will like it tho.

Ok, folks, you asked (no, DEMANDED) for it...............I would be willing to bet that most of you will NOT like it. The more I look at it, the more I DO like it. However, the picture doesn't do it justice, it is much nicer-looking than the photo shows. And please excuse the cwappy fridge...........it is what it is, and I can't afford to replace that at this time. It looks quite elegant, I think. SU still says "it is really dark". Anna, that does look good. The orange sherbert will brighten the room.

I posted this on porkpal's Ag Day thread, but thought I could mention it again, our granddaughter came in first in the FFA regionals and will go on to states. She spoke on the Creed. Stan nor I was ever involved in FFA, but my dad was very active in it in his norther NJ city high school. He would have loved that Jess is doing so well.

Oh, congrats to the GD, Kathleen. Public speaking is a good thing, and a thing most kids are bad at. LOL Obviously your GD is in the minority, eh, since she is state-bound.

Painting almost done, I decided to do another wall of that color, and ran out of paint before I ran out of wall. So, off to town today to get another quart. Flooring getting put down on the 19th. And, the grungy fridge will be no more..............last week we stopped at a 2nd hand store and found a really nice black Maytag side-by-side with a water/ice in door. $450.00 and a 6 month warranty. SU said to the salesguy "we'll keep it in mind". I said "will you take half and hold it till we need it?" LOL And, he'll haul away the old one. It would be a good beer fridge for a man-cave, but the kids don't want it up in the shop. I thought they'd jump on it straight-away.

And suddenly, it's spring and next week, summer. We are headed into the upper 50sF today and then the 60s and next week the 70s. It's nice, but everyone is saying we're going to have to pay for it - wasn't the 300 inches of snow last year paying it forward? I'm tempted to do garden work, but I think I'll wait a bit. Maybe I'll get some lettuce in.

I had hesitated to plant a garden as they are still expecting drought, but since we've already had twice as much rain this year as we had all of last year I decided to risk it. Our daughter was home for spring break so we put in a few kinds of tomatoes, three kinds of pepper, two types of squash plus pole beans. If it keeps raining, it will even live. Actually it is planted in a spot where I can water - if I remember.

Almost 80 here today...............I agree..........hope we don't pay for it all summer. We could get a hellish snowstorm yet anyway, cripes, it's only the middle of March!

Took my 1/2 hour walk this morning and it's not really "spring" yet..........it's not spring yet till you can go outside, take a deep breath and smell dirt.
