Maybe it's just my eyes, but it seems like the stuff they call "blue" looks more like purple to me!

Forget-me-nots, now those are blue! And there's nothing wrong with purple, I personally really like purple!

Well, I'm still waiting to see what "Blue Morn" really looks like. Hilarious! And apparently there is more than one variety of Blue Morn: there's Merlin, and Sophistica, and I think I saw one more, but I'm not sure about the name.

Supertunia sky blue is purple, too. But pretty purple.

And phantom, yellow and black, the black is really dark, dark purple if you look closely in bright sun.

Both of those are cutting grown though, not seed grown. Those two phantoms were tiny when I bought them.

Those pictures were taken about a month ago. The plants are still nice and healthy looking, but blooming less and less. Days are shorter, weather is hot as hell, and the drought just keeps on. Still not a drop of rain. I'm starting to eye them less as pretty flowers, and more and more as compost food.

I'm fed up with it all, so over this garden season. I just want it to be over.

I actually had some of the phantom petunias reseed from last year. I got 3 or 4 plants as volunteers. I was afraid they might revert to the all black or all yellow, but they looked very close to the original plants I bought last summer. That was a nice bonus!

Karen, sorry your garden is struggling so much. We've been fortunate enough to get some rain over the past several weeks, and we've not had any watering bans in our town. Some cooler temps last week were also greatly appreciated. My drip irrigation has been a godsend this summer to help cut down on the watering, yet keeping everything pretty healthy.

Karen, I know you said you're fed up with gardening for this year (I feel somewhat the same way), but are you going to take cuttings off those petunias? Be a shame not to.

No, woofie, I don't think so. I don't have enough good natural light in my house to grow anything. And the small space I have on my lighted shelves is pretty much taken up by coleus cuttings and a few spring seeds.

I had those last year. I was disapointed because the solid ones were not consistently dark. Many would get yellow in them. Thumbs down Like you said Allison.
Ok this is not from seed eitherThumb of 2012-08-25/springcolor/229e32but I'm going to take cuttings. I posted this before, sorry if you guys have seen it. I love it.
I'm going to grow more petunias in the greenhouse for next spring. I only grew two kinds Neon and denim. I'm going to follow Joann's directions becasue she has beautiful petunias.

Hey, what kind are those? I don't think I've ever seen foliage like that on petunias! Interesting!

I really like the variegated foliage.
Did it have a special name?
I will have to look for it.

My purple petunias are now compost food. Two less things to water every day. 92 degrees again today.

Which petunias are not daylight dependent for flowering? I know one of the smaller waves- either shock wave or easy wave. Anyone know any others?

Karen
