I'm doing a 10" hanging basket from seed. In the front I've got 2 Dichondra 'Silver Falls'
in the center 3 Geranium 'Summer Showers (fuchsia). The Dichondra & Geranium have already sprouted and have several leaves..
In the back I am planning Coleus 'Chocolate Mint'.
I've never grown the Dichondra and have no idea how many I need. can anybody tell me how wide each plant gets?

I have found Emerald Falls is a lot short than Silver Falls. They are about 6" wide per plant. I usually put them in full sun though.

From 2008

PInk & Yellow are Opera Supreme Pink Morn and the yellow is Limonchello F1 Hybrid. Both are similar to waves in that they are free flowering and don't need deadheading, which I do very little. Both petunias are easy from seed.
Purple petunia is Avalanche Grape, another free flowering variety from seed.

Phew, gald I didn't order the Emerald Falls after all. Its really nice but its not what I'm looking for. I figured it would be more like the silver falls. Which I LOVE!

I too love Dichondra 'Silver Falls' .. I have a Dracaena combo container that looks similar to the one above. Will post pictures in a little bit

I haven't had great luck with Dichondra, but I do love it. Thought you might enjoy this picture from a garden we visited while traveling down south. I might have to try it again with some of my caladiums next year.

Persian Shield is a fav of mine and can be hard to find in our area. Not sure why it isn't sold more widely and you pay premium prices for it. Maybe I should try growing it from seed.
Funny I remember that pot of Dichondra from the Plantation Tour but didn't remember the caladiums planted with it. I have tons of caladium bulbs so next year I will have to give that a try. Must look for a couple of urn style planters.
I thought you might like these pictures of the silver room from the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. The Dichondra isn't easily seen but there was a lot of it. Hanging over the rock ledges and down by the falls even creeping on the ground by the stream. It was the first time I really saw Dichondra and just fell in love with it. A few pics are going to be blurry.

I planted Silver Falls last year. 1 plant with Plectranthus ( gold edge)

This planter is about 30 inches high. I had trimmed the bottom of the plant.It spreads sideways in a moist potting soil.This is an August photo. Its almost the end of our growing season here,Late September is really the end with cooler nights.

I believe the dichronda would be at least 5 feet if hanging from a planter.Mine would have been at least that if I hadnt trimmed it twice. It was frying on the deck,branches of it rooted in the pot and some spill over rooted in the hot tub well. It can go crazy.

I agree. I had quite a bit of it the last two years. In this pot it is on the left side and not very clearly seen but already growing all over the large container and 4 ft. long to the ground ... and it started growing along the ground and rooting there before I cut it. That was in July.

If I was going to use it again I would put it in a hanging basket or on top of a wall as seen above. I hate to cut it back.Of course its an annual here so not invasive.

Annual here too. I had it in a pot draped over the deck as well.

It really is stunning and dramatic.

I saw seeds for Silver Falls and was thinking about trying to start some from seeds has anyone tried that before?
