A friend of mine asked how to get rid of the june bug grubs from her veggie garden, and I have no idea. Is there a good way, besides hand picking them out? She said she doesn't want to use nematodes because she has a dog. Are the kinds of nematodes you would use for grubs harmful to dogs?

Nope those nematodes BT are not toxic to dogs. Unless they eat the whole bag.

Yep. Fear not. This particular type of nematode your friend would be using wouldn't use a dog as host. As for the mention of Bt, it doesn't harm any warm blooded animals, whether they eat a bag of it or not.

June bugs aren't usually extremely detrimental to plant life. I wonder if your friend is concerned about Japanese beetle grubs, Marylyn...they look similar. If so, milky spore is what is usually recommended but it'll take a year or two for it to really kick in. And if she is in an area where her neighbors have large expanses of grasses they would all have to use it for best affect.

The Japanese beetles haven't actually made it out here in great populations yet, but we have LOTS of June bugs (we call them April/May bugs, because that's when they start hatching and bumping into things in the night here.) Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'm passing it along to my friend and telling her to come check out ATP.
