Yep. Fear not. This particular type of nematode your friend would be using wouldn't use a dog as host. As for the mention of Bt, it doesn't harm any warm blooded animals, whether they eat a bag of it or not.
June bugs aren't usually extremely detrimental to plant life. I wonder if your friend is concerned about Japanese beetle grubs, Marylyn...they look similar. If so, milky spore is what is usually recommended but it'll take a year or two for it to really kick in. And if she is in an area where her neighbors have large expanses of grasses they would all have to use it for best affect.
