It is fun to see how our dwarf schefflera has grown big over the years..initially it was indoors, then moved to our apartment patio..then as we moved to our present home, it has been repotted to a bigger container and stayed in our outdoor garden all season long. Ever dependable and really happy inside her container.

Here it is at present..happily thriving, my hubby took some cuttings, and will bring it to his office Big Grin

Have never seen its flowers, though at times it seems to have buds at the tips, but never really bloomed.

tarev: That's a beautiful dwarf Scheff. I hope you will add your pictures to the database. I have a dwarf schefflera that started out as a very small @ 6" plant in a dish garden 28 years ago. The pot mine it's in has cracked and it needs transplanting so I might plant it out in the yard at some point in time. My photo's are in the database and there's one showing the fruit but I don't have a photo of blooms:

I have a variegated dwarf Schefflera too. The blooms on the solid green variety are similar. This is the variegated one showing the blooms:

Hi Lin! So nice to see the blooms thru your link! Hmm..something to look forward to one of these days! I wonder what aborts the flower mode for mine..I know it has been trying but it stops..

I like the way the dwarf schefflera grows inside the container, in its limited space the trunk looks very firm and sturdy, and it never seems to mind if we get cuttings. I may have to add some soil as spring comes in a little more. I also have the variegated one, and that one really needs to get some root trimming so I can put some more soil, and some pruning as well..had to tie it to our water fountain, it is being tossed around by the strong winds Big Grin

My hubby loves getting cuttings from our dwarf schefflera, usually he uses just water and rooting hormone to root it. This year he tried using water gel beads and rooting hormone on the cutting tips. As always he was hesitant to remove some leaves, so I did it for him. He started the rooting in March 2012. He was so happy yesterday to see his cuttings rooting happily! Was it faster in rooting using water gel beads..hmm not sure, at least it came out successful! Big Grin

oooh, water beads, my kids love playing with those :)

Man, I am SO jealous of your big, beautiful schefflera!!! I always wanted one that big! I had a small one that got to be medium sized (still small compared to yours) but it just looked terrible- like really spindly. So I hacked it down to a stump and it came back much better!!! But its back to small again. Boo!!!

Hi Katie! As long as it came back after you hacked it down. It is very resilient and forgiving Big Grin

I just had to come back and say, guess what? I was browsing on Craigslist, as I often do for toys and plants and I found someone giving away a giant schefflera (about the size of yours)! I am so excited to bring it home!! :D

Cool thanks! Most of my plants were free from kind folks on the net, either if I paid for shipping or traded them something of my own- best way to collect plants, I think they grow better with the act of kindness behind them hehe ;)

As always, my hubby took a cutting from our dwarf schefflera early this Spring, and refused to remove the leaves. So it was stuck once more in water gel beads. Another cutting experiment, knowing we were successful last year.
So I kept it in shade and it almost was a no go..looked like it will be a failure. As expected all the remaining leaves dropped, but I notice the cutting itself is still firm, just no roots. I added some hydroton rocks to add some more air flow below since there is no drainage in this glass container and moved it near the sink for some bright light. So all summer long it was there.

Excited to see some good roots showing:

But I was wondering, if there are roots, where is the new growth, there should at least be a leaf. I know it tried a bit, but somehow blasted.
This is how the cutting looks like:
Thumb of 2013-09-06/tarev/25074a

Finally saw where it is making a new growth, of all places right by the media line: Hurray! Hurray!
Just happy the cutting experiment was not a failure after all Big Grin

I intend to keep this plant totally indoors and soil-less..and will observe further how it will grow. I normally move to soil my schefflera cuttings once it starts rooting. But this time it will stay in this set-up. Will observe how it will grow, one less venue for fungus gnats Smiling

Good job tarev! Thumbs up I find that the plant usually concentrates totally on making new roots ... branching and leaves come later.

Thanks Lin Smiling That's what I see as well now. It really taught me a lot in keeping cuttings in shade while trying to root and providing air flow on the root zone. Smiling

It is really faster to root in soil, but I do not get to see the root growing stage. My simple reality show Hilarious!
