Last week, we had an unpredicted, and totally unusual frost, where the temp plunged to -4C or 24.8 F! Today, I finally got up the courage to check my losses:

My prized Chinese Wisteria, with a multitude of soon-to-be dangling purple flower chains - all destroyed after building a trellis for it and waiting four years!
1/4 of my Oriental Lilies, (quite a few) have the tops looking very dark!
All of my grape vines foliage, gone! All my grape vines cuttings-gone!
Finally, a portion of my huge "Orange" Azalea plot, look like they were frozen!

Ironically, I had taken down to the unheated greenhouse the day before, (which was 27C /80.6F), a "Desert Rose" in full bloom. Today I brought it up, and it still looks fine!
I am fortunate, in that I don't have "all my eggs in one basket" so there still are numerous joys of gardening experiences ahead, I hope. Wow, the fruit trees (quite a few) had already finished blossom period, except for a couple Pear trees, which were caught in the freeze! We will see? Strawberries great, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries appear fine. Didn't check my black and red currants, or gooseberries? Thankfully, I had not put out yet my toms, or tender herbs or any flowers or planted beans. Hey, on the plus side, no visible damage to any of my outside roses (160-actually counted them when fertilizing the other day just before a rainstorm-another 30 in greenhouse). Japanese Peonies look fine. Rhodos, hostas all look fine. Thanks for "the shoulder to cry on"! Cheers!

Good grief! Can't believe you had such a late, damaging frost......2 years ago, my state lost its peach crop after a freezing fog hit the blooms.....I had no hydrangeas that year......I would really cry if my lilies were affected.......hope your grapes come back!

Wow, yes, that late frost sure was late. But I remember one of my bosses from Wisconsin. Always saying he had seen snow every month of the year there. Sigh... Ha! Hope most things come back.

Oh man, that really is a late frost. At least good luck that you haven't put out your veggie seedlings.

But maybe some of these plants will bounce back?

I just heard the stats! First time in 30 years we ever had such a severe frost in Nova Scotia in June. Not only all my grape vines have been defoliated, the commercial vineyards in Nova Scotia took a much bigger hit! Even my Kiwi are defoliated!

Ouch. While it has been quite cool here lately it certainly has not gotten THAT cold. Hope most of your damaged plants can recover.

Yes, I lost two butterfly bushes this year also. Not going to replace them with more butterfly bushes as I usually do.

Seems they last for years and then we get a winter that does them in. Replace, go many years and repeat cycle. I am tired of it. And too old now to dig and replace stuff as I used to do.

Lost roses over this winter also. Grumbling

Friends always said they had babies....mine never gave me any, but I think they may have been mowed down......this time, I planted the buddleia in a flower bed, so I'll see if it throws a few pups......
