We all know that gardening is good for the body and soul. But there is something the great majority of us don’t know. And what we don’t know can hurt us.

I totally agree with that, Marcy. Cold weather makes me sluggish sometimes. Really looking forward to gardening full bore ... which will begin in earnest this week with our lovely weather.

Hurray!
I garden for the pollinators.

I too know the benefits of walking. I walk so much at work and I try to walk briskly to make it count. I have been losing weight since January at a slow pace. Was this due to walking? Not entirely, lol When I garden I just plop down and sit to do a lot of it. At work also if I needed to do something on the bottom shelves I just plopped down on my knees. In January I fell and ripped my right knee open pretty bad. I was unable to just plop down. My knee forced my to bend over about a hundred times a day for quite a few weeks. Between this and the walking I have been doing good. I have tried to keep this up. I have started planting some shrubs that I over wintered and I am trying not to sit down so much when I am planting. I woudln't recommend ripping your knee open to start a weight loss program but at least I saw some benefit from all the pain. LOL I am glad I was still able to walk.
Thanks for the article. I did used to spend a lot of time sitting on the ground when I gardened.

Thanks for your comments, Amber. Sorry it took a knee injury to start your weight loss program, but kudos to you for turning a negative into a significant positive!
