We worked this weekend on building some raised beds for our veggie garden. We've neglected veggies the past several years, but this feels like a good year to get back into it a bit. I find I miss the flavor more every year - the grocery store just can't compete with vine-ripened flavor. Drooling

We are wanting to add a room onto our house, so we had a man with a backhoe come out last week to dig a trench for the foundation. After working all weekend in the veggie garden, we are facing a week-long rain event, so now we have a mini-moat for our new foundation! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing After the rain ends, I'll get out and take more photos of what's blooming. This is the earliest I've ever seen my gardens start blooming - we're at least 3 weeks early. We went from a very mild winter to a hot 80 degree summer weather - no spring, so the weeds are growing at least as fast as the flowers. Grumbling The grass greened up over night with this rain, and I think it grew at least two inches since Sunday noon.

Would love to hear about every one else's gardens. Smiling

Hi, Jill
Yes, we are having great Spring almost Summer like weather here in KY. Everything is blooming, trees, tulips, creeping phlox, dogwoods! It is just great to see it all again. Even an old apple tree has some blooms on it. Hopefully, we will not get a late freeze.

My twins have been home from college and they have been helping me prepare a long daylily bed.
I had one large row and now I am making a 4ft gravel path between them and add another 4ft bed in the front of the old one. I have 2 Pinky Winky hydrangae to put on the sides of a arch. I had thought we might make a small pond with gold fish, but my energy is going lol.
I had seen an article to use a old half whiskey barrel or large garden pot for goldfish. That would be an easy way to add a water feather to the garden. Add a bubbler for sound.

Teresa, do the college kids like to garden? or are they being bribed?

Would love to see pics of all the trees, perennials blooming in your area.

Hi Teresa -

the whiskey barrel sounds wonderful! We haven't experimented with water yet, but it's definitely on my wish list. Spring is progressing here, even though it's 3 weeks early or so. I hope we escape a late frost/freeze, too. As far along as things are, I'm afraid really cold weather will damage the plant, not just the blooms. Ah well, I'm enjoying what's blooming and hoping for the best. Smiling

Both of the kids do like the cash but Brett is going for a ag degree. Bethany and him both work at college weeding/mowing/planting for customers near their college. It comes natural for them. Bethany is going for a Public Relations degree, both are at Murray State.

This is a pic of old fashioned iris NOID but very early.
