Sadly, my capucchino didn't show up this year. I love it, so was hoping it would take off this year, but don't know what happened, it's just not there. But my prairie sun really took off this year and looks great. (Well, great for me, anyway, Hilarious! Hilarious! ) Did you winter sow yours? They look fabulous, of course Hurray! I really like the Moreno and Cherokee Sunset! Very nice! Gonna have to find seed for those 2 and try them, along with the capucchino again.

Do you grow them as annuals there?

I like Cherry Brandy best, but the Cappuccino and Moreno are really pretty, too. I didn't see them when I was looking for other Rudbeckia seeds. Where did you get your seeds?

I order seeds from different mail orders. Veseys, Stokes & William Dam are my favourite seed mail order. Here's cherry brandy this year, behind the chair on the left.

Now, this is odd. Vesey's does not include Rudbeckia in their seed list for the US, only for Canada. I wonder why that is? Confused

Joannabanana..your lawn chairs would go perfect with my old bird bath that I have planted portulaca in! I have an old bird bath that has a crack in it from age and I wouldn't throw it away so for past 3 yrs. I've been using it to plant portulaca in. Last year I spraypainted it terracotta color. This year it is the color of your chairs..I planted the portulaca seeds in coir this year..never again. I'm having to water that stuff every single day, as it drys out so. I'm not good at reading/understanding instructions, especially when the print is so darn small. Was I supposed to mix the coir with some other potting mix? I used it straight from the bag.

I am beginning to like rudbeckias a lot..two years ago I rec'd in a swap or trade .seeds labeled as Double sun gold rudbeckia and it seems it bloomed last year but I only remember maybe 1 or 2 blooms. This year it has done so well and I am loving it. Something is eating the leaves..leaving holes in them but I can't find any insect on it. no sign of slugs so I'm puzzled. I did see a beatle on one of the coneflowers and threw it off last night, should have put it in a covered jar and smothered it. Guess I need to do some spraying later on today. I just went out to pick up newspaper from driveway and take my daily morning walk around to see what new blooms I have today. A new orange daylily will be opening later on today; a gift last Sept. from Gita from MAG group..She also gifted me with some others..Frans hal which has some buds showing so can't wait to see that one bloom too. Buds are on my blackberry lily that Christiane gave me last year too. Blooms are beginning on a Tall garden phlox..that a church friend gifted me several years ago..that is a thrill because I tried so hard to grow phlox and to see it bloom is exciting.

The coneflowers I have are so tall, NOID because I snitched the seeds from the public library's little flower gardens a few years ago..I think because of the height, they may be Magnus variety. Not sure I will be keeping them; want PowWow berry variety, as it is so stunning in color and a lower height.

Has anybody grown PW supertunia "Pretty much Picasso petunias?" I purchased a pot of them about 3 weeks ago and don't have them planted in a container yet, but have been watering them every day because of the 90-102 degree temperatures..I'm disappointed so far, but maybe when I get it planted in a different type of soil, it will look more stunning. If I remember some comments about this variety when it was first introduced, others were disappointed in it. Hard to be disappointed in PW plants..maybe it's just the colors I don't like. Have you seen those ones that look like black velvet and there's one that is yellow and black. Yuck! I laughed at the garden center when one of the employees was helping me; said those black and black and yellow reminded him of Halloween. My thoughts exactly!

Oh, I planted from seeds Prairie Sun but they haven't bloomed yet, but saw a bud on one yesterday. I think I have Cherry brandy planted but they are being smothered by liatris and an overgrown forsythia and shasta daisies. Need to prune back the forsythia this week sometime. It's next to A/C unit, that's even more reason to trim it back. Probably should have been done after blooming..

Ha ha, Pippi, I'm with you on those black and yellow petunias! YUCK! And they're kind of expensive, too. I only grow the Cherry Brandy Rudbeckia because I'm not really crazy about yellow flowers, but the Cherry Brandy is sooooo pretty! I do like some of those varieties that Joanna has, especially that Moreno, but I haven't come across seeds for those.

I have a question!

I'm still a newbie and only recently learned that there are annual and perennial rudbeckias.

How do you tell the difference?

Are all the rudbeckias pictured here annuals? Confused Shrug!
