Hello, I keep looking here and admiring your creativity and beautiful things... I am not very good painting anything ... but I try...

Just want to know what kind of paint to use for painting rocks - I want to use some rocks for signs for some of my herbs... are there any permanent markers for rocks that wont wash out??? I appreciate your help!!! Thanks...

I do like that idea! Did a quick search and came up with this:

"River rocks, with their smooth sides and hefty weight, are ideal for plant markers. Use a permanent marker or an etching tool to write each plant specimen's name on a rock, spray the writing with acrylic sealer and tuck the rock close to the plant."

Another site also mentioned using acrylic paint for painting on rocks, and then sealing with clear acrylic spray.

No idea how well this would work, but it sounds good! Smiling

I've painted rocks for years (and bricks and edgers) and you can use acrylic paints with no problem. We have a tutorial here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it for you, Kassia.

The most important thing to do prior to painting is to make sure your rocks are really clean. I use a wire brush or a kitchen scrub brush. depending on the rock.

Be sure to show us what you do! Green Grin!

Oooh, I've always wanted to paint some tiny rocks with a ladybug design, but alas I don't have any artistic talent .. or maybe it's patience I don't have. You should have seen the mess I made trying to paint an old headboard. It wasn't pretty! Green Grin!

Kassia: Please post some photo's of your rock art creations when you get them done.

Becky: Confused I don't see the "Search" box at the top right of the forum anymore! Is it my computer?

Shannon, I think little ladybug rocks would be adorable ... and you'd think I could paint a rock red with black dots ... but I guarantee you wouldn't be able to tell that it was supposed to be a ladybug, it would just end up looking like a polka dotted rock. Rolling on the floor laughing

I use acrylic paints. My first rock was a cat. I have tried several times and can never duplicate it.

Glad I found this thread as I love rocks too and hoping to do some painting. Of course, I have no artistic talent, but I can give it a try. I love that cat rock!! All are so pretty, I may have to trace something pretty on them first. Hilarious! I know I have several containers of rocks, just have to locate them.
