...and dry. http://www.washingtonpost.com/... This does not bode well for gardening. I'm researching plants that will grow in shade. Not even my summer umbrellas are likely to save the plants in full sun. More and more will go in containers that can live under the shade structures. How are you planning for the summer? Oh, wait... Isn't it here already?

I haven't been adding too much new stuff in my garden. What is here seems to work. Lexie probably does more damage than the heat (creating paths through the beds). For that reason I've planted a few containers but not because of heat. I expect the prediction is for hotter temps this summer than even last (HOT) summer throughout the southwest. Nope... not adding anything new.

Frost is out of the picture here for a while. And snow is long gone; though, when it is here I do the Arizona thing and just wait for it to melt. Gratefully the forecast here doesn't get to 85F during the next two weeks, so it's ideal for poking about in the garden. Maybe I'll get some more mulch put down around my roses. Or maybe not. I'm sure I would if I had spent the winter shoveling snow.

Depending on which weather forecast, I'm either gonna see frost & snow this weekend, or just colder & rain. Either way moisture. But if I am gonna be seeing snow/frost, I'll have to cover my petunias. Kinda doubt I'll see that cold of weather. Today's a hot day.. 80degs right now.

Forget cold; it will now be months before we see COOL. Heat records are falling everywhere and the forecast is not good. http://mycenturylink.com/news/... What do you think: Will we have to garden underground? Confused

So far today, it's rained enough to make mud puddles on the car. I'm hoping there's more where this came from. It is like a sauna out there, though....

Please remember to put out water for birds and some ground-level dishes for any stray cats or dogs. This is killer weather and time to look out for plants *and* pets and people, too, especially any elders near you.

I change the water in the bird bath twice a day. My birds love their baths in the morning and evening. I check the hummer feeders twice a day. Everyone is well hydrated. Lexie has air-conditioned, front row seats to watch the birdies activities.

I guess I'm not an elder yet. No one has come to check on me Smiling Whistling Two "other" elders in the 'hood are up early for their walks and gardening. Superwomen!

Have too many paperwasps hanging out on my ponds, but they gotta drink too. Bees are going crazy over the agastaches & salvias that are blooming. This was taken yesterday, Sunday 7/15 at about 3pmish downtown Parker, CO
